Senator Carl Levin explained on the senate floor today that President Barack Obama insisted on indefinite detentions of U.S. citizens in the defense authorization act. Cenk Uygur discusses just how wrong this decision was.

He is a legislative inept president, with no administrational experience, thus no leadership abilities. He is almost unable to communicate with the general public. Most of his successes can be chalked up to good cabinet choices (Pennetta, Clinton, Gates ect). His record on civil liberties is dismal. The only civil rights initiatives that his administration has pushed are voting rights related, which is probably only at the behest of his party. Pretty much the final straw for me, I have no faith in this guy. Write a song about this newgreen.
As Any suggestions on lyrics are most welcome. I'll do it, these things are fun.
There has got to be someone out there with the ideas/charisma to pull it off. But, of course they would also have to have the $. I have a feeling that this election year is going to be unlike anything we've ever seen. Time will tell if the OWS movement holds sway over the discourse. I think it will.
This is not going to be your typical rich guy with some crazy ideas from his favorite book.
http://www.reddit.com/r/politics/comments/ng2ls/american_pat... If you are looking to build on any existing opposition you're looking at the Dems. I think we need a major overhaul and I'm hoping there is enough anger to just throw an unprecedented number of reps out when the elections come. Hopefully then we can start trying to push the Dems to the left in the way the Republican activists have successfully pushed the Republicans (and the Dems by extension) to the right. I dunno. It is such an uphill battle. But the bottom line is that I don't want to vote for Obama but I really really really don't want a Republican in the White House. Yes, I am one of those people that do in fact believe that that would be worse, -not the same.
The question is who? .. and how will they get funded? It's no secret that money wins elections. Combine $ with a sensible platform of reduced spending and increased revenues and you may have a winner. I think you should run. I'd gladly help you any way I could. I'm serious.
I'm hoping for http://americanselect.org. I see it as my only chance to vote for someone this next election. I'm tired of voting against someone. I suppose Obama fooled me.
The two party system is pretty much institutionalized. Our electoral system makes it very difficult to get on the ballot without broad support or a ton of money. The parties have their tendrils in everything, business, unions, news media. Yes, there is a Green Party, and others, but they aren't invited to debates, or given the time of day. It's a democracy, you see. EDIT: I do have hope for Americans Elect though. They are getting the support and delegates to have an independent candidate that is nominated by a popular vote put on the 2012 ballot.
Voters need to hear pragmatism. IMHO the Green Party is more about 'everything that has gone wrong', rather than interesting solutions to problems. But, I guess the GOP is there too now, with the Dems close behind.
Gingrich would have me casting an enthusiastic vote for just about anyone other than him though.
But baring that, obama will get my vote. I wouldn't be surprised if Ron Paul ends up on the Libertarian ticket.
The quote at the end is fantastic: One day, most Americans will point at us in the news media and say, ‘Why didn’t you tell us? Why did you encourage all that partisan bile and venom? Why did you feed us all that trivial crap, when so many terrible things were converging?’ And no one will be happy with the answer. Least of all those of us who offer it. ‘What we gave you,’ we will say, ‘is what you wanted.’ -Ted Koppel
