Fooled all of us. It seems the one thing that liberal and conservatives agree on in government is that fascism is good. With all the long detentions and corporate welfare its not hard to imagine the road to an actual fascist state. I'm not predicting it, but I'm just saying that the conditions are right.

Right now just seems like such a good opportunity for someone to rise up out of all this bull shit and win as a 3rd party candidate. I hope that http://www.americanselect.org/ works. I like the idea, "pick a president, not a party".
is right and the There has got to be someone out there with the ideas/charisma to pull it off. But, of course they would also have to have the $. I have a feeling that this election year is going to be unlike anything we've ever seen. Time will tell if the OWS movement holds sway over the discourse. I think it will.

You're more optimistic than me. A slight outsider can't even win a party nomination. Remember in 2000 when McCain and Bradley were running and gathering steam? Lots of people were excited about them at the time, and eventually the parties circled their wagons around whom they wanted and we ended up with an election of Bush-Gore, aka the two worst candidates in recent memory. The parties always win, because they write the rules of the game.

Actually, I think this is the year it might happen. Obama has sqaundered his support of the left, and the GOP has Romney, who obviously isn't going to be able to bring a vision of change. The left and right are disatisfied, and that's the narrative. However, no block is currently more disatisfied than the Independents. The Americans Elect candidate will be socially liberal, and fiscally moderate. That's what web voters want on average. As long as this candidate has charisma, he/she is going to become the beneficiary of widespread discontent.
This is not going to be your typical rich guy with some crazy ideas from his favorite book.
