Let’s do this!

elizabeth  ·  456 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Pubski: August 23, 2023

How did it go?

elizabeth  ·  556 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Pubski: May 17, 2023

Looks like there's a theme here this week! I've applied to a job today, so the hunt is on. I think my resumés are looking good, the cover letter wrote itself today. Feeling hopeful i'll find something cool. I'm in dire need of money after my trip, so the balance between aiming high and finding sure things that will pay bills is gonna be tough. It's my first time going through a more traditional job search process, i've always just made my own companies or been hired through word of mouth before. Fingers crossed this torture won't last too long. Looking to completely change industries and roles so it might be an uphill batte at first. The north star is becoming a PM at a tech company. But that might take some years and also I might change my mind along the way. It feels like a really basic career aspiration honestly, but I want to dial back the weirdness a bit to find more traditional and secure employment for now.

We’re splitting hotel rooms, and it’s between 15-25$ per night per person. Not fancy but solid on the essential amenities like showers.

Convenience stores are everywhere with surprisingly decent food and space to eat and bathrooms.

So far, not very hilly but we’re only 1/4 done. I think the more hilly part is up ahead but since we’re not going inland we’re avoiding the big mountains. Cut out sunmoon lake because after our first few days it seemed too hard.

It’s not easy, but probably the easiest bike touring possible, perfect for a first trip.

I enjoyed the banshees of inisherin - beautiful scenery, touching, funny and dark.

Ahh - the passport forgetting is a classic! I’m glad everything worked out and you had an enjoyable trip.

Thank you, that’s helpful. Indeed, we split soon after the 10 year mark. My friend told me the other day I grieve “like a man” where I went on a yolo denial fun spree the first 3 months and the sadness and loss is catching up now. A frankly sexist assessment by name, but she’s right about what happened. I feel my ex had the opposite process.

Thankfully, I’ve never been a mean or agressive drunk. More a fun and reckless one - which from a sober person looking in is definitely annoying but great with other drinking friends. But my newfound sad drunk energy sucks for everyone so time for a hard reset.

Yeah, that’s what they call bitcoin maximalists from what I gather. Saying btc is better than Eth cause of the proof of work/stake difference? “Meritocracy “ vs “stakeholder power” apparently? And that Eth enabled the technology for scammers to scam easier since shit coins are built on top? I think I’ve learned more in the past week about crypto with this whole thing unfolding, but still have a pretty basic understanding of it all. Certainly made following this shitshow of news more exciting.

I hope so! The dude is loaded with stolen money tho, so he might be able to live out in the Bahamas till he dies or gets murdered. Or maybe even strike a deal by promising to give some of it back? But For sure those idiots deserve prison time and I hope this time consequences catch up to them trust fund babies on meth playing around with capital like it’s the Neopets…

elizabeth  ·  737 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Y'all we gotta talk about FTX.

It’s the best time to be hanging in Mexico with a dude from cali deep into the crypto game, with the never ending twitter memes. I get the insider play by play - but still not buying the perspective since he’s a die hard orange piller.

It all feels like a bunch o kids playing banker. I’m having a hard time assessing the real impact of this, since it really doesn’t even break news in any of my regular circles/news outlets. A Macdonald s bankruptcy would be more newsworthy. But it’s also reveling so much shady dealings we all knew were going on in the rich circles, and now they’re undeniable. Wonder if it’s gonna matter tho, doesn’t feel like anyone is paying attention besides a few techies…

I mean, if your livelyhood depends on it and you want to not be dependent on those fuckers again in the future - maybe consider alternatives before going no contact. Especially if all it takes is a nightmare of a Christmas dinner once in a while. Not saying it’s easy but worst of two evils? Set yourself up for future success?

10:30 we’re leaving so it would be an early breakfast - if we can meet at like 8am ? Or Saturday evening?

Yeah, I’m pretty good at getting shit done and improvising in a given situation. But I feel I’m in the most uncertain phase of my life at the moment. No more job or relationship - something that has actually never happened to me in my whole adult life : I met my ex the summer before starting university.

And with my life experience and just the past few months of meeting people I have this weird confidence that I’m likeable and capable enough to make whatever I decide to do next happen. It could be anything from completely changing career orientation, moving cities, finding some interesting lovers… Or all of it at once. it’s just kind of scary and overwhelming because it feel opportunities are endless but I’ll have to make a choice before I’ll want to stop bumming around the world.

Also in a little bit of an angry phase. At myself for staying in a relationship that stoped serving me a long time ago. At my ex for not trying harder to make us work. Did not know I had so much repressed anger at the situation, I wonder what other layers are still hidden there, FUCK.

We’ve driven down to love burn with a crew of friend to do midnight poutine right before pandemic hit. It felt like a vacation burn on a beach, plugged into the power grid, free propane and showers kind of deal. You can order Uber eats to the gate and re-entry is either free or dirt cheap. For us is was an awesome bonding experience with a group of buddies, in what was the equivalent of an all inclusive sunny escape from Quebec winters. Making poutine is hard work and driving down was a pain - so it still felt like effort. But being there was comfy as shit. There a was good art and good people, but I would not go again. I feel I like gong to regionals only once to gage their org setups and compare and contrast to improve our own. It’s also an excuse to travel somewhere else. I’d like to visit the Detroit crowd next.

elizabeth  ·  830 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Burning Man 2022 Roll Call

Do you still do any regional shenanigans? Or is it a new chapter with other communities now?

elizabeth  ·  871 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: The Biggest NFT Video Game's Economy Is Collapsing

Created myself a second life account in early pandemic to check out if we can do a burning man meetup thing in there. They have been doing it for many years already. But I could not get deep enough into it to enjoy anything. Felt like when the boys in my high school were skipping class to go to the gaming store, to play RuneScape on their computers. Clearly I’m not sinking in enough time to find the appeal. Nor do I want to.

Was also watching « how to with John Wilson » and he interviewed a full time real estate mogul in Second Life. Making a living, and paying real virtual « realtors » a salary to stand in the spawn point and show people around houses. This shit is wild… I’m more amazed by this than the fact there is a specialty sports whistle store for referees in nyc.

« You’re wrong about » podcast really drove the point home about the dumbness of the satanic panic stuff… I wasn’t yet a conscious being when it all happened but good god was that some overblown BS.

I wear one most days…

I also bought crocs earlier this year but ended up returning then. It was a notch too far

elizabeth  ·  892 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Poles LARPing as Americans on July 4

I wear my fanny pack like that sometimes - it feels easier to reach, the weight distribution feels more comfortable when it’s bulky and it’s a little distance between the hippies that want to give you 20 second hugs.

Really? I hear there is some great creative folx around and it's been high on my list of american cities to visit.

It's like it's the opposite of LA - no fake ass bitches.

When I think of Detroit, these kind of badass motherfuckers come to mind:

Yeah, I use google sheets for an absurd amount of things (probably too many) and the fact that it’s connected to the cloud and I can automate it with other web applications like forms, or run weekly reports is a game changer compared to excel.

But I was puzzled last week when a member asked me how to connect their Linux laptop to the printer network. Probably would have figured it out, but I didn’t know Linux users left their house often enough to get laptops.

So far mine has been like symptom-lottery, changing every day:

Day 1. Extra low energy

Day 2. Muscle and joint soreness

Day 3. Sore throat

Day 4. Congested nose and snot

Day 5. Gross wet coughing

We'll see what tomorrow brings, but yesterday felt the worst, while I feel mostly recovered today apart from the coughing. I hope it's not one of these long sicknesses yall are talking about, it does feel like i'm cycling through the symptoms pretty fast. It's just sucky because today and yesterday were probably the nicest spring days we've had yet, would have loved to enjoy it more. I did go on a 2h walk with my mom this afternoon. But it's all rain going forward for the rest of the week. Supposed to be biblical tomorrow.

Space really isn’t an issue on my end, but for sure I’m not in the market for those rusty junk blobs I see in front yards that people call « art »

My pile of junk welded together will look cool - if I manage to come up with something worthwhile. The metal coat rack we did in the class turned out alright :)
