This is great. It is the acknowledgment my one and only dance move needed. Finally, I can do the "robot" at weddings and feel cool.

Gibson had been hurt but was in the locker room receiving treatment. Lasorda would check on him between innings to see if he could hit, the response was "no" each time. Then going in to the 9th Gibson asks for Lasorda and says, "I want to hit skipper". The rest is history: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NO-8XRJpgIc

They won game one of the world series because of Gibson. Cool moment.

Perhaps someday there will be a "machine tax". Any company that employs a machine to do what a human once did will be taxed at a higher rate proportional to the amount of people out of work. It's not too far-fetched.

"I've always wondered what that movie would have looked like with, say, Tony Scott at the helm instead of John Badham".

That makes more sense than the "steve" discrimination theory I came up with.

"Disproportionate spending on our military while domestic standard-of-living spending is neglected? Check. Permanently stationing our military in forward positions all around the globe? Check. Forcibly deposing leaders who don’t accede to our goals? Check. Propping up despots who turn their local countries into clients of our project? Check. Threatening military action against other nations that are not compliant with our imperial aspirations? Check".

-Spot on.

..."more social justice, you know... "Jesus stuff". -WELL SAID!

When I was at Obama's inauguration, I saw this same fox news reporter, wearing a bow-tie interviewing idiots on the street asking antagonistic questions in hopes that someone would gaff or just sound stupid. This time he picked the wrong guy and it's a good thing that someone had the presence of mind to capture it on video.

"You'll never see a collector have the original digital copy (on a USB drive I suppose) of an album in their gallery the way that they might have the first press of a record.". -I don't disagree with this, necessarily. But, I bet when 8track, cd's etc were released there were plenty of people that tossed their vinyl because they couldn't conceive of anyone ever wanting those "relics" ever again.

The same may be true for mp3 someday. Who knows what different consumption devices we will have? It could be that someday mp3 players seem so very "tactile" compared to whatever advanced listening system is devised?! -Time will tell

AhimMoonchowsen  ·  4827 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Unless politicians actually do something about the world economy, be afraid
While its indisputable that gold has remained a benchmark of value for thousands of years and has almost always appreciated and while I agree that after a financial calamity abates, it will remain valuable... I'm not convinced that it would retain it's value after a MAJOR catastrophic collapse of financial markets. I feel like gold has been "grandfathered" in. If there were to be a clean slate, I don't see gold being the "standard". But it's likely this clean slate would only come at the cost of a major revolution -and the victors make the rules. If the current owners of wealth are on the prevailing side, then gold will keep it's place atop the heap of treasures. If the lower economic class prevails then it's likely to be something else. Perhaps chewing tobacco or hummels?

I agree with your assessment, land does seem the best investment. I only asked because of how absurd I think it is that people divest their assets to purchase "gold". -Makes no sense to me as far as an apocalyptic safety net goes.
