“There’s class warfare, all right,” Mr. Buffett said, “but it’s my class, the rich class, that’s making war, and we’re winning.”
I've only ever used the ring tones that come stocked with my phone. I guess I'm missing out.
You know that period right after a storm when the sky is in transition and everything is a yellowy-gold that normally doesn't occur in nature? For me, The Catcher in the Rye is like this. It captures a fleeting transitional moment in a young mans life. This is a stage that Holden will never recapture. I read it as a kid and thought it was just alright. I read it as an adult and it made more sense to me.
Are you working on anything at the moment? I enjoyed your writing and would like to read more. Also, don't be too hard on the title "Meme Weaver", I rather liked it.

"My inclination was always to say, “I bet you saw her naked a lot, buddy!” and then elbow him jovially in the ribs. I did not do that – mostly because you don’t know how sturdy 80-year-olds’ ribs really are."
I liked her writing. She has a great voice.
"Run For Your Life" has a bit of "Tiny People on the Beach, Giant Heads in the Clouds" about it.
You've done this? I'm intrigued.
"I believe that, much as Orwell suggested, it is the public's ability to engage in this type of doublethink, to be aware that the law is inherently political in character and yet believe it to be an objective embodiment of justice, that accounts for the amazing degree to which the federal government is able to exert its control over a supposedly free people".
This, amongst other things is what led to the OWS movement, imo.
?no comprende?
Oh... are you saying you want video of me doing the "robot" at a wedding? Yeah.. .that's definitely not going to happen.

Amazing piece of sleuthing: "The staff is mostly in their 20's and 30's. They do not go out for lunch, they have it brought in by a catering company". I now envision Tom Cruise descending from the ceiling via a cable, dressed in black to steal a bagel from the catering table.

I hope that this becomes the rule and not the exception. if organized religion has to be in the forefront of our politics, I would at least rest assured if I felt like Christians focused more on christs teachings and less on how to use biblical texts to persue a fear based conservative agenda. There are a lot of churches out there preaching tolerance and inclusion, they just don't get the media coverage. Why not? Because they aren't the ones calling for people to pray in a stadium with them (Pharisees) (Rick Perry) http://thinkprogress.org/politics/2011/08/03/280108/profile-...
I'm no scientist, but I too was really interested in this piece. Will this ability to modify T-cells to attack cancer cells work with other cancers or is the concept somehow specific to Lymphocytic Leukemia? The fact that the T-cells proliferated while needed and then withdrew as the battle closed is fascinating. Again, I'm no scientist but articles like this make me wish I were. Wonderful work!

Bravo France. Do you think the GOP would still be anti "any taxes" if a huge wave of wealthy Americans made the same plea? What I think is fascinating is that it is often middle class whites that oppose tax hikes for the wealthy. Why? Is it the dream that someday they may be amongst them? Strange days.
AhimMoonchowsen · 4867 days ago · link · · parent · post: For the very rich, citizenship is a problem to be solved.
I think that such a "state" would be tolerated by the powers that be only until it became problematic. Once they became a "thorn", they wouldn't last long. True power is having an idea that people are willing to stand behind or even die for without the promise of glory or monetary reward. I think these "super wealthy" will find themselves standing alone and only then will realize that their "importance" was always justified in measure.
Who is greedo? And more importantly, am I beating him?
This is great. It is the acknowledgment my one and only dance move needed. Finally, I can do the "robot" at weddings and feel cool.
Gibson had been hurt but was in the locker room receiving treatment. Lasorda would check on him between innings to see if he could hit, the response was "no" each time. Then going in to the 9th Gibson asks for Lasorda and says, "I want to hit skipper". The rest is history: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NO-8XRJpgIc
They won game one of the world series because of Gibson. Cool moment.
The author does a great job as "tour guide". SG's all over the map, interesting stuff.

Perhaps someday there will be a "machine tax". Any company that employs a machine to do what a human once did will be taxed at a higher rate proportional to the amount of people out of work. It's not too far-fetched.

"Disproportionate spending on our military while domestic standard-of-living spending is neglected? Check. Permanently stationing our military in forward positions all around the globe? Check. Forcibly deposing leaders who don’t accede to our goals? Check. Propping up despots who turn their local countries into clients of our project? Check. Threatening military action against other nations that are not compliant with our imperial aspirations? Check".
-Spot on.
