I always associate sales with... I don't know... in some kind of negative connotation. It's very interesting to see how psychology plays a huge part in the business, but I wonder how much people who work in sales revere their jobs.

Ads completely turn me off to anything. The way I see it is: if you need to advertise your product... it probably isn't that good anyway. Now, I enjoy McDonald's every now and then but the bulk of the best food I've eaten out has been from locally owned restaurants. I research the product that best fits my needs and sometimes decide to not even buy it.

I guess I just never understood advertisements.

Sounds to me like he just wanted to be Rambo for a minute. With the wars drawing down... we have a lot of combat veterans who are prime candidates for positions within the FBI, police departments, CIA, etc. These guys are highly valued for having been in combat (and some positions within the FBI this is an absolute must.) I wonder if it's going to be a problem having ex soldiers and Marines policing the streets. My understanding was that Brelo is a veteran; not sure if he was in combat or not.

Ah, I've just finished reading a very interesting short on the U.S. Navy: https://medium.com/war-is-boring/the-u-s-navy-s-big-mistake-building-tons-of-supercarriers-79cb42029b8

In order to deliver firepower on a target, the U.S. Navy fields an increasing unaffordable supercarrier which must be escorted by one Aegis cruiser, two destroyers, a nuclear attack submarine and a combined strike force crew of more than 6,000 to carry and launch an air wing of increasingly unaffordable airplanes with inadequate range.

I think it was Switzerland or some other country where they're thinking of implementing a basic living allowance. Many things will be automated and performed by robots -- Conservatively, I say another 15 years before that process begins to snowball. It's been an interesting thought project of mine to imagine an entirely automated McDonald's restaurant. That said, machines are expensive to own and maintain...

Only corporations with access to resources will be able to control them. It's kind of worrisome, to an extent, but this would be a problem for government to tackle: If corporations own the machines, thereby removing the worker, to whom will the profits go? Who will be the ones buying cheeseburgers from McDonald's?

What would you do with your free time if you didn't have to work?

The only thing that would prevent a civilization like this from existing would be the greed and maliciousness of those holding influential positions... clinging to the past and fighting for breath like a dying candle. A system like this is inevitable, but it will require the awakening of the world's population; there's more than enough iPhones for everyone.

Very interesting! This is akin to the discovery of this: http://www.cbc.ca/news/world/shackleton-s-whisky-returned-to-antarctic-hut-1.1304252

I wonder how much more alcohol is buried underneath the sea! treasures everywhere

glitchinthematrix  ·  3517 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Hubski, how do you get your news?

I can't get enough sources. I like to follow everything that's happening in the world at all times. I've been following several issues since as far back as 2006! I enjoy staying up to date on the latest events, but it is certainly time consuming. My sources for news vary depending on what I feel like reading.

For example, I'll go to Tumblr and follow some universities, which lead me to read about current ground-breaking research.

Other news sources include Vice News, NYT, The Atlantic, The Guardian, Reddit, but my most favorite is AP for up to the minute releases. They're arguably one of the most trusted news sources I've come across, and possibly the world tbh.

Following so many news sources leads me to cross-reference with others to fact check or pick up on something one or the other missed. i don't follow any one particular news source... I follow the truth.
