I've always loved reddit and I still do, but sometimes it gets a bit crowded and I kind of think I'll like hubski quite a bit if I get into it. Any thing I should know about? Differences, similarities things that you think make the site special?
Any feedback is appreciated, Thanks!
Hey, First of all, welcome to Hubski daryl. I say "welcome", even though it appears you joined over 400 days ago. Glad you've returned. When in your 'feed' you will find posts from people or tags that you "follow". Right now it appears you are only following the "hubski" account and therefore your feed is probably pretty strange looking. My advice would be to check out the global posts which you can find to the left of the "submit a post" button. Find a post that interests you and follow the person that posted it. Or, click on the "tags" link and follow some tags that interest you. Immediately, your feed will change. Also, when in your feed you will see a link to "tutorial" on the bottom of the page. Click it and take a quick tour of the basics on the site. For some of the most appreciated Hubski content, check out the "badges" link. If you have any questions that aren't answered by the FAQ or About pages, feel free to PM me. Enjoy the site! Oh, as for the "what makes the site special?" the answer is the people that use it. Check out the "community" page to link to some regular users of the site.
TNG's right; it's all about the people. I haven't been here for a while so the content might've changed lately (which I doubt), but one key difference between here and Reddit is a lack of appreciation of memes and the like, and lame pun threads.
Good to see you AnSionnachRua. Hope things are going well for you and yours. I began working on my mixed CD tonight and it is proving more difficult than I anticipated. Too many choices of artists/songs, not to mention overall themes for the mix. Good times.
I know what you mean. I am officially a part of the Hubski team and I couldn't get my name. Some jerk named steve signed up like 30 days before me :) Ah well, thenewgreen works well. Seriously though, let me know if you have any more questions daryl. Check out those "badges" on the top tool bar. There have been a few great posts/comments in the last few days. Cheers!
Welcome. Here we have thoughtful conversation. reddit was originally a little like hubski, where users would submit interesting articles, and reciprocated with thought-provoking comments and discussion. reddit's grown into a more "popular" media, and I find redditors a bit unattractive. But here... everyone has a voice, and jokes and puns are toned down a bit.
Also new to Hubski, as of right now. And I found out about it on Reddit. You guys should probably be ready for an influx of visitors. At least the first waves should be well behaved. Maybe.
Link? We had a big wave in December from a top reddit post. It was a bit messy in the comments for a couple days but nothing too bad. The ones who weren't looking for this type of site got bored left fairly quickly. The nice thing about following users is you don't have the follow people who are positing pointless material. :D Welcome to Hubski! If you have any questions you can shoutout me (just wrap insomniasexx in @ signs) and I'll do my best to help you or direct you to the person who knows the answer. There are a ton of little cool features and pages on hubski, so go explore. For example, the TMI page is fun as well as the badges page. I hope you enjoy.
Can't retrace to where I found the link, but it was a thread talking about alternatives to an obviously compromised Reddit regarding censorship, votegaming, ect. I did notice you guys don't have a #conspiracy tag? Is there a reason for that?
Tags are chosen by the users who make the post. People in the community can also add a tag to a post. You can read about the community tag feature here: http://hubski.com/pub?id=42878 If there isn't a tag, it's because we haven't had any users use the tag yet. I'm guessing posts that fall under conspiracy are being tagged privacy or politics or economics or whatever. Go ahead and start making posts with that tag and get it going! I'll follow it. As far as I know, Hubski doesn't have some big conspiracy against conspiracy....
Oh no, not my implication! Just checking. I'll be sure to start using that tag judiciously then. Thanks for the info!
You're welcome. I look forward to reading some new material re: conspiracies. I never subscribed to /r/conspiracy but perhaps you can change my ways.
I am more of a learner than an educator. In that regard, I hope to stick to what is relevant, and avoid the pitfalls of the money circuit, and the other popular red herrings. I have no intention of flooding people with total nonsense, I am intrigued that this community seems to be more conversation based. I'm hoping that will translate with some of the ideas about our reality that are less moored in the zeitgeist than what the MSM has on offer.
