I noticed that, did not occur to me the reason. F*ckers.

There's definitely some truth to the term "nanny state". But there are also certain regulations, that I'm glad exist. I suppose there is a fine line. It’s all caused by idiotic government regulations that are wrecking our lives one consumer product at a time, all in ways we hardly notice.
I hate when things "wreck my life" and I don't notice.
I've never heard of a "regulation" cap. It's an interesting, my initial thought is that as new technology exists it's somewhat inevitable that new regulations will too. But then also as new technologies exist, some old regulations should become moot.
I don't know if I made it up - I would doubt that I did, but I do read about it from time to time. I would suggest that very little new regulation is required for most new technology. Any new regs needed for smartphones or ipads or longer lasting running shoes? -XC
That is a very stupid regulation. I will be drilling a hole and buying a rubber stopper if I ever need a new can. However, perhaps it's not best to judge your government on their regulation of gas cans. They also require that the gas you put in it doesn't contain lead.
I would totally judge a person on how they treat their dog, why not a nanny state on how they regulate freaking gas cans? Lead in paint and gas was a very well understood problem - and one that took literally decades to fix. I suspect that "gas spills" from vented gas cans was never more than a nit in a b-cats eye. -XC
As a homeowner with multiple gas cans, I hate the new cans. Exactly like this guy says, no vents, they close automatically, etc. They don't flow right without a proper vent, they gurgle, the bubble, and honestly, I spill gas far more often now than I used to with an old can that I had to get rid of because it was metal and getting old and rusted. I get the reasoning behind it, and the intentions were good... but man. The new gas cans suck, they rarely work right, and I spill far more now filling up my mower/snowblower/weed-whacker/chainsaw now then I ever did before. At the end of the day it doesn't bother me much by any means, but it does seem like it was well intentioned legislature, but poorly executed. The new gas cans suck shit.
