Last week. Really good as always.
I haven't had the time to catch up on new music this week, unfortunately. (Someone please god tell me - is the new Lips any good? What about the new Cold War Kids? The Black Angels? To say nothing of Kid Cudi, Phoenix, Airborne Toxic Event coming up in the next two weeks. Iron & Wine. Argh.)
But anyway, I did revisit Brian Eno's Ambient 1: Music for Airports last night, and it really doesn't get any better than that. Beyond peaceful. On Grooveshark here.
EDIT: new Iron & Wine is apparently streaming on NPR.
Tonight, I'm listening to hiss's band, All-Starlings. Really enjoy this tune. -Great band, truly. I also listened to fuffle's new song which really impressed me. There's a lot of talent floating around Hubski these days. Pretty cool. Most weekends I allow my 2 year old to go to my records, pick one out and listen to one with me. Today, I let her actually take it out of the sleeve and put it on. She got a kick out of it and the album she selected was "Rubber Soul". We practiced the names of the Beatles. She pointed at John and said, "Daddy". -Nice. We enjoyed listening to one of the best albums ever made.
Hard to say just yet. We've got about twelve songs total and we'd like to touch up bits and pieces here and there with the full band. Agreed that this is a surprisingly robust community of musicians - the top # here is #music! fuffle I only had a chance to take a glance at the song you posted but I really enjoyed what I heard, both in terms of the tone and the song itself. Will take a deeper dive this evening... meaning, I will likely put it on endless repeat while staring pensively at a nearby body of water.

Good girl.

Good girl. ^bet that earned her extra dessert or some damn thing.
New Milk Music rips pretty hard I've been spinning this the past few weeks.
This will be my first post on the new music thread but i feel you should all hear this guy. Close you eyes and get into the zone with it. Really cool stuff.
I'm really getting into Blackalicious' whole Blazing Arrow album. The whole thing is gold. You have to listen to this album. Jimi Hendrix - my favorite song of his is Voodoo Child. The White Stripes, my favorite songs of them is Blue Orchid, Rag and Bone, Fell in Love With a Girl, Icky Thump, and There's No Home for You Here.
All of the music from Bela Fleck's trip to Africa is incredible.
I recover my computer and so I recover all my music and new music. To start, I've been listening to Sweet Valley is a side project of Nathan Williams, from Wavves. I'm not really into Wavves, but I'm really into this.
The new Mac DeMarco album. This guy just did a show in my Uni so I wanted to listen to this guy, and he did not disappoint, really catchy melodies, and just fun.
Lapalux made his debut album, and I still don't know how I feel about it. I really like some of the songs, and I think some other songs are nothing impressive. Listen to it though, you might dig it.
The Knife's new album is out! And I like it a lot, wayyyyy more than I thought, so listen to that too.
I'm also finally listening to Danny Brown, after months and putting him off because of his voice I'm actually getting in to him. I'm actually listening for the first time to the new album of James Blake, liking it so far.
Need to listen to new Flaming Lips.
New James Blake = Great.
New Flaming Lips = Great Mind if I ask where you go where you got see Mac DeMarco!? I'm so jealous that you got to see him live. II is a solid album.
I go to SF State, and they have been getting good artists lately. Yeah Mac DeMarco was reallyyy good, go see him if you ever have a chance.
Yes, that Brian Eno album is absolutely perfect. Have you listened to his last album, Lux? I've been listening to The Neighbourhood too much lately. I might have brought them up last week and if so, I'm still listening to them. Especially the song linked to, Sweater Weather. On the complete other end of the spectrum I've been listening to Swedish Noise/Post-Punk band Iceage. Some of their songs remind me a bit of Joy Division. Just saw that you asked about the new Flaming Lips. Yes, it's a fantastic album. It's in my top 5 records released so far this year. I find it to be infectious while somewhat sad at the same time.
Where online can I stream the FL new album? I see its not to be released till the 16th. Any links would be most welcomed.
You're going to hate me for this, but I don't know. Radio Station perks...
Good news thenewgreen, it's up and streaming on NPR's First Listen
Spring hit here in DC fast and hard. I mean really, two weeks ago it was snowing, today it's 92. Once spring hits, certain music comes out. Light, fluffy, or just fun stuff. The National is a perpetual favorite, especially The Geese of Beverly Road from the album Alligator. Additionally I feel like ska a lot more during these times, and the most spring/summer I can think of (that gets stuck in my head without listening to it in this weather) is Big D & The Kids Table. The two most bouncy songs I always think of are Shining On and Evil Girl/Angry Girl. Don't be deceived by just those two though, they have plenty of much heavier things that fall into punk very well.
Recovery - Frank Turner http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F1L5zJ2afLs and "If I Ever Stray" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVx2RuANAyk This music is great when photoshopping product images. Pen tool. Outline. Perfect. Outline. Perfect. Outline. Cut. Paste. Red Levels. Green Levels. Blue Levels. Saturation. Blur dust specks. Repeat.
I'm loving Macklemore & Ryan Lewis so much. I have been listening pretty much non-stop and the lyrics and beats are fan-fucking-tastic. I love me a great lyricist. Not so much Thrift Shop but Can't Hold Us and Same Love and White Walls Otherside and Starting over are great songs about addiction and recovery. I just discovered another version of Otherside: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWhx-CtPmBU with Red Hot Chili Peppers Otherside in there. Same love is getting major radio play on KROQ and 9.87, the two biggest rock-alternative stations here in LA. It's fantastic. My boyfriend called them "the next eminem" (meaning rock stations play their music.)
I hadn't heard that Magic song before. Back in the day! You can tell how much he's grown and really settled into his style. That song is trying to much at some points, especially at the beginning. He reminds me of some of my boyfriends friends who rap. They almost have it, but they still "act" or "copy" or whatever you want to call it more than just being completely in their own. Confidence too, I guess.
Oh, these guys have been around forever. They were one of the vanguard of the Seattle grunge movement way back when. Now, I'll admit, I'm not big into grunge, and I'm sick to death of Seattlites resorting to the whole "we had Nirvana before Nirvana was Nirvana" schtick in order to assert a sense of enduring musical superiority. But Mudhoney has a special place in my heart. So scrappy. Their live stuff is still killer, too.
