I'm loving Macklemore & Ryan Lewis so much. I have been listening pretty much non-stop and the lyrics and beats are fan-fucking-tastic. I love me a great lyricist. Not so much Thrift Shop but Can't Hold Us and Same Love and White Walls Otherside and Starting over are great songs about addiction and recovery. I just discovered another version of Otherside: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWhx-CtPmBU with Red Hot Chili Peppers Otherside in there. Same love is getting major radio play on KROQ and 9.87, the two biggest rock-alternative stations here in LA. It's fantastic. My boyfriend called them "the next eminem" (meaning rock stations play their music.)
I hadn't heard that Magic song before. Back in the day! You can tell how much he's grown and really settled into his style. That song is trying to much at some points, especially at the beginning. He reminds me of some of my boyfriends friends who rap. They almost have it, but they still "act" or "copy" or whatever you want to call it more than just being completely in their own. Confidence too, I guess.
