Does fast-food culture lead to fast-food sex? Does the Terror that plagues present-day culture permeate the bedroom?
I don't know, but those might be contributing factors.
I think the biggest problem with "hooking up" is that it's done mostly for selfish reasons - that you want to have sex. The other person isn't really taken into account, and I think that's the key here. I'm not a very old person by any means, but I've found that good sex is a result of two people truly caring about the other and hoping that they're enjoying it at a high level, and doing what it takes to make that happen.
I've been out of the "hookup" game for nearly 10 years now, but I had my fair share of them prior to meeting my wife. Honestly, most of them weren't that bad, but there were a few that stand out like diamonds in a pile of slightly less shiny diamonds. There's no doubt that both spontaneous sex with a relatively unknown partner and "meaningful" "emotional" sex can be gratifying. There is a reason couples "role-play" to keep it fresh. That said, some of the acts and situations mentioned seem deplorable and I don't think I'd enjoy them much.
You mean acts like, "a young man masturbating into the mouth of a nearly comatose young woman, a young woman blowing a guy she just met because it "seemed like the thing to do," which is of course, next to a plug for a related story entitled, "Why Hookups Are Good for Women" ?
Been there. Sometimes the sex is all that makes sense with a particular person and I don't mean "makes sense" in a cerebral way, but really on a fundamental level. Sometimes the relationship part, the friendship part is the only thing that works on that level too. If I ever have a kid, I'm going to try to get that across as clearly and honestly as I can.
