Hey Hubski, I hope everyone is weathering the storm. I have a survey I would like you all to take, if possible. Please copy paste and reply below.

1. Do you have or have you had the Coronavirus (COVID-19)?

2. Does someone you know have/had it?

3. Do you know someone that has died from it?

4. Have you lost your job or been financially impacted by it?

I’m just curious how this has impacted people. I know how it has locally, but Hubski is a well distributed network of awesome human beings. I am curious how y’all are impacted.

Stay positive, but don’t test positive. Social distancing!!

Much love, -tng

1) I'm getting over coronavirus. It sucks. Energy is low. Still coughing 5 weeks later. Pretty sure this will be with me for months; when I had pertussis it took six months to grow back my alveoli. It never got "oh shit" except for the three days where my lungs burned when I breathed in. Only ever time I dealt with that was when i gave myself pneumonia by sleeping in a painting booth overnight (0 stars would not recommend).

2) My mother-in-law is getting over coronavirus. Neither of us could get tested, of course. We spent probably a combined 10 hours trying. For her it manifested as laryngitis with a wicked flu. For that matter one of our midwives has been low energy with laryngitis since late December. Connecting the dots I got it from my wife (who had mild symptoms for 3 days) who got it from my daughter (who had the pukes for 2 days) who got it from her class (which had an eruption of a dozen or so mild pukes cases in February). All this marvelous language about ease of testing is purest bullshit; speaking as a healthcare insider who sees the internal memos, WA is really only testing people in dire health or those who have been around people who have gone to the hospital. I know of ONE PERSON who tested positive for coronavirus and testing was unavailable to one of our employees, who is his daughter-in-law, who was at a party with him all night the week before. She's asymptomatic.

3) Not that I know of. All the Olds I'm in contact with are okay so far. We ran a pulse-ox on my mother-in-law because she was complaining that her symptoms felt "exactly like altitude sickness" (which is a shitty place to be at sea level) but she rolled a 97% so we knew she was going to be okay.

4) I didn't think there was a chance in hell that anyone would ever want to watch a bunch of strangers cooped up in a house together ever.fucking.again but what the fuck do I know. Meanwhile we're an essential business and a healthcare facility so we're literally bracing for dunkirk. our nearest hospital L&D department has closed and the local EMS department is kidding-on-the-square that if things get dicey they're transporting to us not the other way 'round. Meanwhile three of our employees are former-student hustlers trying to roll three jobs into one income and their boyfriends/husbands are hospitality/construction/whatever so they're all freaking balls about money. One of them has already left her husband for beating her but she had to move back in because this is our life now. Another is probably getting beaten but she hasn't said anything about it yet so all we can do is be extra-supportive and ready to help her make a move.

I’ve been hearing everyone applying for EI now just gets switched to CERB if their application is still processing.

I debated writing COVID-19 but thought “nah, nobody will call me on this.” I was wrong. It was you. (I've now edited OP)

I feel ya re the “not yets.” I hope that my parents and my in-laws can weather this storm. Hell, I’m 42 years old, I hope I can. My wife has already lost her job. She’s our major breadwinner. I gave myself a 30% pay cut too. I was very lucky to have sold my home just prior to all of this or I would be screwed.

Stay safe! Don’t get the corona... I mean, specifically COVID-19

1. Do you have or have you had the Coronavirus (COVID-19)?

  no
2. Does someone you know have/had it?

yes, we were in line for an international woman's day (March 8) event featuring activist and revolutionary, Angela Y. Davis when we were approached by a guy who hugged and shook hands with my guy saying, "You married us in Vancouver 15 years ago." 14-15 days later we find out he tested positive . . he said there were four bad days with flu symptoms but he was getting better. He was at an event with 500 peole. Toronto shut down around March 23.
3. Do you know someone that has died from it?

no, but my cousin in Salem Mass has had a good friend die from it and two of her friends are sick.

4. Have you lost your job or been financially impacted by it?

cheques keep coming . . . so far.
veen  ·  1697 days ago  ·  link  ·

1. Nope, although I might be asymptomatic (veeery light cough/sniff at times)

2. Yep, know like 3 people, 2 nearby and 1 daughter of a colleague with a confirmed case.

3. Thank goodness no

4. No consequences for me, other than that my girlfriend (who just graduated) doesn't have the best job prospects :(

1. Do you have or have you had the Coronavirus (COVID-19)?

Possibly, but I don't know. Can't get tested. (I'm in America, so...) Went to San Diego about a month before Wuhan went crazy, and everyone on the trip came back sick with a mysterious dry cough/flu thing that none of us could shake for about 4 weeks. Then COVID happened, and we all looked sidelong at each other... and there's been some persistent flu going around my office (which does a LOT of business in China) for a month or so. It's been around my team of 5 people about 3 times... and that was just around the time I went to San Diego, too.

So yeah; probably. Fine now, tho.

2. Does someone you know have/had it?

Kinda. My sister works with seniors with Alzheimers, and has been in/at all of the senior homes in Seattle that you have seen in the news. She does NOT have it... but many of her clients do.

3. Do you know someone that has died from it?

My sister does, of course. I do not.

4. Have you lost your job or been financially impacted by it?

Still have my job.

Flights back from the UK were hosed, so it cost me some extra money to get a flight (and seats) that were acceptable to me and my family. Car rental had to be extended, so that cost some money. An extra hotel room at the end of our stay, as we waited for our flight. Paying someone to do grocery shopping for us, while we are quarantined at home.

I think that might be it...

oyster  ·  1697 days ago  ·  link  ·

1. No

2. Outbreak at the nursing home my sister works at so we’ll see

3. Thankfully no

4. Laid off like 2 weeks ago now but honestly since my job is 95% interacting with traveller it was a bit of a relief. Financially I’ll be fine, I’ve been thinking about getting back into gardening for something to keep me busy.

1. Do you have or have you had the Coronavirus (COVID-19)?

- I still in a tin foil hat way think I had it in January and even if I have or had it, wouldn’t be able to tell you for sure because of the testing situation.

2. Does someone you know have/had it?

- yes, friends sister and another friend-of-a-friend, separately

3. Do you know someone that has died from it?

- yes, friends sister died. I didn’t really know the sister that well.

4. Have you lost your job or been financially impacted by it?

- i am essential bitchessssss so, no

lil  ·  1697 days ago  ·  link  ·

Sorry bfx, I have not been keeping up. Are you particularly essential to this situation or just of course essential as we all are?

thenewgreen  ·  1697 days ago  ·  link  ·

My answers:

1. Do you have or have you had the Coronavirus? -No. I don’t think so

2. Does someone you know have/had it? - No. one of my colleagues aunt has it and was just released from the ER.

3. Do you know someone that has died from it? - no

4. Have you lost your job or been financially impacted by it? - Yes. We have implemented pay cuts for our executive team and some others to extend runway. My wife is out of work.

steve  ·  1697 days ago  ·  link  ·

really sorry to hear about your wife. That is terrible. She's a smart one though... she'll be back on top in no time.

thenewgreen  ·  1697 days ago  ·  link  ·

Yeah, she is going to be fine. We are going to open up a private practice for her. She already has the loan and a business partner. This just puts us with 3 months of no income from her. It's not ideal but we are very fortunate people. We just need to stay healthy. That's all that matters right now for our family. I have us on pretty stringent lockdown over here.

How are you? Do you have time to collaborate on something? We should put together an old-school podcast. I have writers block musically. I'd be willing to do it if you would put it to video once I complete. Thoughts?

I don't know if I had Sars-cov-2 because I wasn't tested but I did not get COVID-19

    2. Does someone you know have/had it?

Yes, a professor I know from the medical clinic. Was knocked out for the past 3 weeks. He made it but still has breathing issues.

    3. Do you know someone that has died from it?

A relative of an Italian colleague from Milan.

    4. Have you lost your job or been financially impacted by it?

No. Officially I work for the government. I should be fine.

1. Do you have or have you had the Coronavirus? -No.

2. Does someone you know have/had it? - No.

3. Do you know someone that has died from it? - No.

4. Have you lost your job or been financially impacted by it? - Yes. My seasonal tour guide work is not happening for sure. The government is promising 2000$ a month starting mid april for 4 months - I hope I don't get rejected on a technicality because if I do, I'm fucked.

1. Do you have or have you had the Coronavirus (COVID-19)?

No

2. Does someone you know have/had it?

No

3. Do you know someone that has died from it?

No

4. Have you lost your job or been financially impacted by it?

I'm going to lose my job (management consultant), but for another reason (we are two in the firm and my boss is going to stop working so I have to find something else). The prospects of finding a new job are not great right now, especially as a consultant as the majority of clients stopped their projects. I think I should be able to find something in september. Might be impossible before that as almost nobody works in July/August in France with the holidays and everything.

We shall see!

1. Do you have or have you had the Coronavirus (COVID-19)?

Nope!

2. Does someone you know have/had it?

Not yet. Until now it’s been only 3 degrees of separation (brother’s neighbor’s yadda yadda), though there have been a handful of cases in my town.

3. Do you know someone that has died from it?

Nope.

4. Have you lost your job or been financially impacted by it?

I was job searching before all this, and the interviews I’ve had have stalled out since. Close friend of mine was supposed to snag an unpaid internship in a couple weeks and even they are getting told that may have to wait.

ilex  ·  1697 days ago  ·  link  ·

1. Hopefully not!

2. A couple friends-of-friends but no one I know directly

3. Nope

4. Not me, but plenty of people I know are in precarious positions.
