I'm gonna throw this up first. It's been pissing me off. I made the eyes too big so I look like some human/lemur man and I think the ink drops read as blood. I think I can still fix it. I just wanted to experiment with watercolor pencils I have and my boss gave me a frame I can mat this into so it gained more weight that most experiments. But I'm not going to frame half assed shit.
Critique? Comments? Custard pie recipes? I think I can draw glasses on me to distract from the owl eyes and I bought Prussian blue watercolor in a tube which should help with the lack of value.
I said I was working on a comic so here's some images. Most are raw from the scanner so you can see pencil lines and the blacks aren't black. Part of the reason this is such as pain in the ass is I'm working in GIMP instead of Photoshop and I don't have a great understanding of how to make it do what I want. So the nicer pictures are in GIMP format. I also don't want to pay to scan things that are drawn at a reasonable size so that's not helping. These are 8.5x11".
I don't usually give up on things even if it takes a long time to finish. And this is going to take a loooong time. I already want to redo most of this because I don't like the style, or lack thereof. Also, I need it to be less cartoony for the ending I have planned. Maybe Jeff Lemire cartoony. That would work.
Thanks.
I don't know where that comic's going, but I want to see more.
Oh man. That nurse and the last panel were so creepy. Very well done! Oh, and the sun in the first panel. That smile though.
I think it looks great, only issue been what you've pointed out yourself, that the eyes are bigger than normal. Really great colour choices though! In regards to the comic, I like the style of black on white, especially the second last panel, maybe consider adding more white to each scene for a better contrast with the shadow? Overall, keep it up man! I know how hard it is to appreciate anything you do yourself but its a barrier to cross, like learning perspective or shading techniques. I've gotten great feed back on my last two posts with the #art tag, its inspired me to draw more and more, I hope it does for you too!
The comic images are fantastic and evocative. It looks like you started the watercolor with the eyes. Never start with the eyes. Faces are very difficult because it's one of those places where our brain is doing much more than seeing. Try to bring it together as a mosiac of shapes and shades while resisting the ideas of nose, eyes, mouth, etc.
I think I'm just going to do another watercolor drawing. I have a ton of that heavy paper. The drips I dropped on the watercolor pencil got way too indistinct anyway. There's a lot I'm happy with with the comic but it's an ongoing process so if one thing I do better in another section clashes with something I did earlier I'm liable to scrap previous work. It's not meant to be very long but it's turning into an endeavor. Thanks.
