Hello, I just registered.
Just wanted to say hi :)
Hope to have a nice conversations with all of you! :)
Hello! you should check out #tellhubksi, #didyouknow for some good info on site functionality, as well as checking out the Hubski Primer My personal advice, which was given to me by other people when I washed up a while back, is to follow mostly #tags, and then follow a few people who you find have consistently good content in those tags. It's the easiest way to ensure quality content showing up on your feed all day. We have #pubski on Wednesdays, which is sort of just a site-wide "get together and talk about what's new in our lives", as well as #grubski which is a food competition, the hubski new music club, and a movie club. We're currently in the process of trying to bring back #tagoftheweek, in which the post including the tag of the week that gets the most feedback gets to decide the next tag of the week.
Hi I'm new too. Just trying to figure out how everything works here at the moment.
Hey jeffers00n, welcome to Hubski. If you have any questions about the site, let me know. We made a Primer Page to help new users figure out the various functions etc. Enjoy!
Hola Gogolian! You're from Poland? My grandparents emigrated to the USA from there :) I reaaaaaaaly miss my grandmother's pierogis and golumkli...really every single one of her homemade dishes. I just mastered cooking sour dill pickle soup this past winter :P
My Mom (Actually Everybody's mom in Poland) still makes pierogi :) My sister does it too. Actually, pierogi is very commonly made thing as it is convenient as a snack or a main dish, and easy to handle :P The best ones are stir fried ones in my opinion. As for GOŁĄBKI..... AWWWW YISSSSSS~!!!!
Post your recipe! I used to live in Detroit Michigan where there was a large Polish community. I haven't had a good bowl of dill pickle soup in ages. put my user name in the post bracketed by the @ sign if you do and I'll get a shout out to let me know about the post.
I may have seen you around Detroit ;) 2nd generation Polak that doesn't speak Polish dill pickle soup recipe. Basically your typical root stew that's hard to screw up. 3 medium potatoes cubed
1 large celery root cubed
Couple carrots cut up
Medium onion cut up.
Tablespoon cumin
Couple teaspoons (or equivalent) vegetable broth.
Jar of sour dill pickles put through food processor. In a bit of oil or butter in bottom of soup pot fry up the onions a bit, then dump in the pickles. Couple minutes go by then add the cumin and stir it round a bit. Then add everything else and cover with enough water to cover the veggies. Bring to a boil and cook for about a half an hour. Taste along the way to make sure no major fuck-ups. That's it. It's better than my marinated steak in Royal Oak I promise. Key ingredients (besides dill pickles) that will make the soup suck if u forget or sub them imo them: celery root, cumin, and vegetable base.
Hey Corvus, glad you are digging the site. The community page in the upper right hand corner is a good place to find people to follow. Also, if you want to throw some serendipity in to the mix, check out the random button at the bottom of the page. Enjoy your time here and feel free to ask me any questions.
Glad the tips are working for you. Another good place to source content is the "badges" link in the upper right hand corner. Typically, these posts/comments are the most appreciated by the community. Also, the tmi page is fun, you can find that in the lower bar. Also, we have a bunch of video/podcasts that feature long time members of our community that you can see here:
