Dude. Dude. Dude. Her is not about a guy marrying a computer. It is a movie about forgiveness and apologies. The AI could be replaced by a real human at any point and that is the point. Its not about the computers or a lecture about how tech overrules us. Its a statement about being able to forgive others even if we find it hard. As to gentrification I get it. Yeah the movie is lacking significantly there. I'll always have a crush on Jonze if for nothing else than this video: Having said that I hope you continue to make these and share your views on things cause they are fun to listen to. I like that you had a completely different reaction to the film than I did and that you brought up the point about marriage which frankly bothered me too.
Finally watched Her, and I couldn't agree more with you. Her is a movie at least in part about relationships and how we interact with each other and technology for that matter. What makes a relationship unique, how can we ask forgiveness of ourselves if we don't think others will give it to us, how can we adapt to change (both in a relationship and in this case technologically what with the phone sex and all that that I could dive in to), and how to deal with being unsure of what you're doing with your life. The film reminded me of Lost in Translation in a lot of ways, which makes sense because Spike Jonze is married to Sofia Coppola. Cinematography was pretty great too. Then there's everything else we could talk about related to consumerism and technology, the other things I felt were major themes in this film. This review reflects a lot of my feelings about the film.
Not to worry. Jonze has made some amazing films. The one you're talking about seems so cloyingly a white male fantasy that it has to be dissected. He has a wife, but she doesn't "understand" him? I haven't seen the movie. I assume we never get her side of it, because white guys. I assume Herr Pornstache can simply walk away from his failings because white guys. I'll have to bootleg the flick so I can find out and cringe a lot. But yeah, a Los Angeles without blacks or Latinos? It can't be San Diego white without having some kind of traumatic decimation or two.
