I think it has become a different issue on reddit though as they have defaults. So it is more about caring what the newbies will see and caring that millions of people who only subscribe to the defaults and a few others who might have wanted to read it didn't get to. Sure you can say make your own subreddit and they probably will, but when we are talking about a subreddit with 5 million subscribers it is becoming like censoring a major newspaper.
For online video I absolutely love the stuff redlettermedia put out so I am constantly checking out their site. Star Wars, Star Trek, Indiana jones reviews and general film reviews. All top notch
I like this idea, I do something kinda close to it which is every 2 months or so I have the talk with myself and say you gotta go to the gym more, gotta stop ordering take aways etc. This forces me to go to the gym for about 4 weeks and then during the second month I sort of descend back to steady state, then comes the talk again and the cycle repeats.. It seems to keep me fit enough as that's usually one of my main resolutions.. Possibly due to it being on my mind early January after eating loads at Christmas.. I like monthly resolutions though a lot as it allows me to think about introducing new elements into my life I might not have thought of. Like your local music idea, there's no way that would have come up in January I'll bet. Also I commend you on your reading a book a month, I honestly just don't have the time but it's something I would love to do. After coming home from work and then studying the last thing I wanna do is more reading..
ah awesome! Maybe we should just add this thread to the primer. I almost have my head around this now.
I just wondered if anyone has thought about this kind of issue if this site scales to reddit proportions. I really liked that when i arrived I wasn't pointed to some default tags which gets rid of the reddit defaults issue. Also as I understand it there are no mods and also no downvoting. But if say the site does get huge and companies like McDonald's and Taco Bell and the NSA take notice, is there anything fundamental which makes this site harder to add shills/manipulate than reddit.
I wish I knew a newspaper I could trust.. The guardian maybe but apart from that I feel a bit lost looking for "reputable sources" these days. I must admit a large part of my news comes from reddit. It's just too damn easy to get it there and get swept up in the hive mind.
It all sounds really good this but still can't get my head around it. Say I start uploading my electronics tutorials under "electronics" then if someone else starts using that tag but they have a completely different idea for what they think the "electronics" tag should stand for, where do we go from there?
As I understand it there are no moderators.
I've got friends in their early 20s who are going gray, sometimes people's hair just does that. I don't think it means you are getting old.
I shower in the mornings because if I even have a 2 minute nap the heavens of grease open and all my hair sticks to my head and just looks awful. If I didn't shower in the morning I would go into work looking like a homeless man.
I so hope that they keep making progress, I have to get to space before I die! Elon Musk must sure be a busy guy with both this and Tesla, he isn't even that old I don't think. Makes me feel like a fat hobo.
I really want to use these open source good for humanity projects and when I do start to use them they usually suck but I was really impressed with OSM.. I got the android app and that's good too. I wish duckduckgo could replace google as my search engine but it just doesn't have the results I am after, google knows exactly what I want and being an engineer it's all about the right answer.
Interesting read, I do think it has become about the money in the west. One of Russia's oligarchs runs a premier league football club.. With regards to Russia are they happy with Crimea and their little show of force or are the gears cranking into motion on a bigger invasion plan?
I must admit I am not well versed on what's going on, so many different world conflicts at the minute.
So as I understand it Ukraine has been unstable for a while and the country has decended into civil war and the president/primeminister has been ousted.
Now is Russia seeing its chance to claim land on a weakened state or are they simply reorganising their current military bases located in Ukraine to protect their interests. Basically is this a power grab? I hate how little I can keep abreast of world politics, I am trying now though..
Seriously what the hell is going on, are we living in a police state? They can't possibly be doing this for "terrorism". This is way above and beyond terrorism they must know that. There must be another motive.
That's cool, I'm sorry too, I was being a bit touchy.. Let's be friends
Oh god I am so sorry to barge in on your website, I was being light hearted get over it dude. Why are you finding it hilarious as even though there might not be corrupt mods or censorship on reddit the evidence that the government IS infiltrating and manipulating opinion and websites/blogs. It isn't hilarious its Stasi-esque. I haven't left Reddit I just saw this site in a post and thought it would be cool to check out and everyone has been cool to me today except you.
lol wut? I was obviously messing around, just asking if this place had the typical reddit stereotypes..
Ahh right I just thought you meant tags when you said personal tags I didn't know they were a separate thing. Thanks dude
I was just wondering about the url scheme here, is there something to reddit where I could say go to hubski/t/dogs for tags about dogs or, hubski/u/wario for me? I always liked that feature. I guess you aren't reddit though so I shouldn't try and turn you into it.
I was only messing around but I guess by euphoric I meant the usual crowd from /r/atheism (as an atheist myself I find the whole sub a bit embarrassing) . Also everyone know what a neckbeard is right?
Thanks for this, I used their stuff last year but getting anyone apart from my girlfriend to setup the key stuff was just never happening. What they need is a web/windows/osx version too. One thing I love about hangouts is that it is ubiquitous. Text secure needs to be that too. The new UI is gorgeous too, the dark theme is great plus the icon on my home screen doesn't look crap any more either! Good job guys.
So can you use hubski as a personal blog too and just keep tagging your stuff with your own tag? or is that frowned upon. I ask as I would like a place to document my electronics designs I think people might like publicly.
Only suggestion I would have would be to point people to the primer at the end, unless I missed that.. Thanks for your help, one last thing, the only way for me to know that people were replying to this post was to actually go to the post and check the comments.. are there any kind of inbox/notifications? or is that all in the feed?
It's a shame there isn't an alienblue equivalent for this thing too. I can just never seem to bring myself to use browser based sites on my mobile phone. Apps are much nicer to use.
Hey thinks I was looking for something like this but couldn't see it. Maybe the tutorial should have it as the last page. Also the tutorial sucked! I still don't really understand how the wheel system works but ah well I am sure I will get it.
If someone ever does make an app. Alienblue has to be the model it is so superior to the android ones. Also I think the dark theme on this site is gorgeous so could that be included.
I wish I had millions of dollars to donate as I know how hard it must be to get an app off the ground because someone would maybe make an amazing android one and immediately someone would ask for ios.. Then I know I want to use this site on my ipad, so an ipad friendly one would be needed. Lot of work
So...get going, I expect it on my desk by Monday
Ill try NPR it is honestly too much effort trying to wade the shit from the good. I need something reputable delivered right to me. The guardian politics podcast is quite good so I imagine ill like NPR
The timing thing would explain it, it is very erratic but it happens more times than not. About 5 mins ago every time I went to the tags page it was logged in but now I go back and it's logging me out again. I'd say it happens maybe 60% of the time I don't care but I think for new users it's the kind of thing that puts you off as it confused me at first.
I am definitely going to check that out. The drinking club is a great ideal I have never tried mead so might get involved.
