kleinbl00, I subscribe to your hub because I found most of your posts and comments to be interesting and thought provoking. Your thoughts on many matters have an experienced and mature sense to them, unlike the usual garbage one expect to find sprawled all over the internet. Your comment I will drag this place down into Flame War Central if that's what it takes. is so out of my perceived nature of your experienced and mature persona. If I did not know better, I would have thought the threat to have came from a spoiled 5 year old.

I did not read the article nor did I participate in the original post, but from what I am able to gathered, differing opinions were expressed that were somewhat touchy for those involved in the discussion. Not everyone is going to see eye to eye and agree on everything and that is what makes for a good discussion. What fun would that be if we all just buzzed along to the same tune and be nothing more than a part of the hive mind. What I find most appealing about Hubski is the diversity of opinions and experiences of the community, despite the fact that it is not nearly as big as the other social news sites. In many ways, it feels more diverse than both Digg and Reddit combined. Hubksi to me has been a great platform for me to discover news and ideas (a lot of which came from you) and to interact with a great community of intelligent individuals. I surely do hope that the "flame war central" comment was nothing more than words from a heat of the moment impulse. It will be a horrible thing if yet another platform with such great potential see its fire snuffed out.

lessismore  ·  4636 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: The Point of the Tamagotchi was to Watch Things Die
Wow!! Tamagotchi. A blast from that past. I waited in line for hours in front of FAO Schwarz in San Francisco on the day of release. The line was very similar to what you would see at an Apple store the morning of a big release. I was lucky and managed to get two of them and gave the precious white one to this girl I was madly infatuated with. We had a bet to see whose Tamagotchi would live longer. If I won, she would cook dinner for me and if she won, I would cook dinner for her. Being the competitive person that I am, there was no way I was going to lose. Besides, I didn't want her to find out that I could hardly make a proper bowl of instant noodle. I absolutely had to win if I was ever to win her over. I took super great care of my Tamagotchi. Rain or shine, I took care of the little one. Made sure that it was well looked after. I even set alarms at night to wake me up every few hours to make sure that I didn't neglect my digital ticket to everlasting love.

Everything was going great a month into it. My sweet angel was taking great care of her Tamagotchi and I was doing the same with mine. Each night, we would talk for a couple of hours on the phone about the most important things and the most inconsequential nothings and compare notes on our digital pets. Everything was going perfectly. I was really getting to know her. The more I learned about her, the more infatuated I got with her. I found out how happy she was as a little girl in Vietnam living with her loving parents and her sweet grandparents. I also found out how scared she was when the soldiers came and destroyed just about everything that her family had. I learned of their perilous journey to Malaysia where she lived for two months. She told me of the beautiful sceneries by the beach during the day and the recurring helling nightmares at night during the whole two months there.

Man, thinking about the Tamagotchi sure is depressing. I think I am going to read to get my mine off it.

lessismore  ·  4493 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Hubski Update: The little things

mk, you're doing a fine job on the site. Besides the the columns experiment, all upgrades, major and minor, have added to the user experience. Kudos to the hubski team!!

I am curious to see what hubski.com will evolve into during the course of the next year as new features and functionalities are added while growing the community.

See you all next summer!! I am off on another one of my long adventures.

I am not harmed by a person disagreeing with me, since to this day I've heard maybe two people earnestly tell me I was going to hell.

Unfortunately, people of faith who are in power are passing legislation that are heavily influenced by their beliefs.

I too am a reddit refugee as many of the community are. Please do not let this single thread give you alarm and not participate in the community. This thread is the exception and not the rule. If you decide to stay on and participate, I think that you will find Hubski to be a great platform to discover news and ideas and an amazing way to participate in serious and often thought provoking discussions with a great and diverse group of individuals. Every now and then, there might even be something that will make you chuckle a bit http://hubski.com/pub?id=18863

Simple. Don't use it. There are so many other viable alternatives out there, at least for home use.

FreeBSD, NetBSD, Debian, LinuxMint, and etc...

Work can be a ton of fun. You're on Hubski and being paid!! Can't be all that bad.

I'm not a super Hubskier, because, honestly, I don't have time to be.

The fact that you took the time to make this post makes you pretty darn super in my eyes. People in general are quick to point out deficiencies and slow to give praise, myself included. Just ask mk about all my feature requests.

I will give up sex before I give up meat and cheese. If I am going to die from cancer for loving meat and cheese, so be it.

lessismore  ·  3846 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Hey Hubski, I've been lacking motivation for a while. Where can I find it?

You're not going to find it externally. You will have to find it from within. Start by setting simple measurable goals for yourself and accomplish them. In the past, I've set simple goals such as running a mile each day for a week. The next week, I would set a goal of doing 50 pushups each day on top of the mile. Next thing I knew, I was slowly starting to feel good about myself (physically and emotionally) and things starting snowballing, met the woman of my dreams, go married, made a baby, and so on and so forth...

Yup. I am going to trust physical access to my house to a stranger. Right!

lessismore  ·  3395 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Tomorrow, I'm starting to run and work out

No need to join a gym. As long as you're motivated and dedicated, you can get an awesome workout without anything other than what you were born with. Body weight exercise can do wonders for you.

Good luck!!

River (IIRC) is quite the artist!

This. Absolutely this. It is not just in manufacturing. China started banning import of waste products as well.

lessismore  ·  3412 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Hubski, I think today we should all go out and do something fun

Once the San Francisco fog burns out, I am going to head out to Golden Gate Park and plant my ass on a grass patch and read Why People Believe Weird Things and try out Hometown Creamery. I doubt I will like it more than Marco Polo though.

IRC is great, but late joiners miss a lot of the interactions. How about setting up an official Hubski chat service that keeps history. Something like matrix. What does everyone think?
