I was going to post it as well, but I then looked around a bit more... it seems like this is being squashed by alot of other people. Here is a counter argument.
Hubski reminds me of a group sitting around a campfire
can you explain that like I am 6?
I was trying to get into arduino and robotics, but... it's kinda hard to do from a foreign country without amazon... and I am too lazy to do the non-amazon route. I miss amazon.
What happens when multiple people use it at once?
Just do what you want to do, cold email your dream labs... that is the trick.
Holy shit, the Martian is awesome! And it is all over the internet . The Author, Andy Weir, seems to have tried his best to give it away to everyone he could for free, I think he is OK with sharing it around. Dude, listen to the first 5 mins of the audiobook. Edit: let me know if the link does not work in the US or somewhere... I think it should.
Way more lab research than the field, I put the ecology section in my PhD proposal only because I wanted to go to the woods and that aspect of fungal Bioluminescence has not been studied since the 1980s... someone had to do it why not me, I like the woods. But yeah I really like what I am doing, I like my subject area, and I am so close to finding the genes (assuming the next few things go as expected, fingers crossed). Right now I am procrastinating from watching the field ecology videos I have collected, over the past year. I am actually taking a week off from wet-lab to get the ecology data annotation finished, I like collecting the ecology data, I do not like reviewing it...
Pisgah National Forest in western North Carolina. I just grew up with it, I know it like the back of my hand. The shining rock wilderness area is just a lot of fun for me. Also it is really close to Asheville, NC the big hole in the bible belt.
Pursue goals and take responsibility for my own position. The only way to get what I want in life is to make it myself, but first I have to know what I want. After reading the book I went through a period of self evaluation to figure out what I wanted in life and to pick out goals, I actually went back to my roots as a kid, I wanted to be an astronaut back then, so I figured why not try, If I fall short I will still probably wind up someplace nice. Yeah, society crumbles in the book and spoilers, the book ends with society hitting rock bottom. The book is taken by many to be like the bible of total libertarianism, and that is definitely in the book, but alot of those people also read other book literally. The book definitely made me more of a libertarian, and I agree with the vast majority of the premises of what the character John Gault said in his radio takeover address about the role of the individual and the role of government. But, in addition I still believe the govt should also provide education and health care in addition to basic regulation of market places and defense. You have to have a healthy and educated society to have it worth protecting... aside from those points I am down with the book. I think it is a good book for motivated smart individuals living in a world where the only certain thing is death, taxes. The book also separates good-greed and bad-greed. And I think this is a key thing of her books that many who have not read the books do not realize exist in them. Bad-greed is exploitative and is like the polar opposite of the good. I think that those that read the book then look at our society and see a lot of bad-greed going around, but there are beacons of hope. It's a damn good book. It does brainwash you, it really does. But everything needs a good washing now and again.
Ha Ha, lion king to real music.... I am not alone! ha ha ha...
In my life, jeeez, that is a long period of time... I would have to go with "Transistor" by 311.
I think complete abstinence from hand-to-mouth nicotine is right for me. I tried vaping in the past and I do not think I broke any of the main habits that have kept me smoking. But, different strokes for different folks, I wish I could say 7 months right now. My Achilles heal this past time was social drinking, basically I am a bit socially awkward and don't really like people IRL, I also get "claustrophobic" when I am inside too long. So, I was out at a bar with friends and I actually had to stay in the bar with them the whole time, I couldn't sneak outside for a break. I thought those breaks were all about the nicotine in the past, but no, it was also to sooth the asshole in me as well. So, I stepped out with some friends who were smoking and sure enough, a cig wound up in my mouth... I have to watch out for that. I think I am going to get some nicorette gum for my next bar adventure.
Based on recent sci-fi movies, it looks like the hero is a botanist... Ellen Ripley in Avatar and Jason Borne in the new movie the Martian... I am a Botanist, I have been obsessed with space for as long as I can remember, and I am doing my PhD in a weird and foreign land (not the USA). I think I should apply at some point for something.
Are we hubskians? What other slang do we refugees need to learn?
I will add this to the list of reasons why I don't wear deodorant.
Instead of just taking a few genes from Barley and sticking it into rice, we should just make a new super human-made grain-starch-grass-plant... that you can all use for biofuel and clothing if you want... beer and bread too. We need this plant.
Well... Attempt #2 for me, so far I am on day 5ish or something so far... but I have been Chomping on Nicorette gum the whole time... we will see what happens.
I am trying it this time with Nicortette gum this time.
I just listened to the Silence one. It reminded me of a thought I had the other day after I found probably the quietest spot in Sao Paulo (a very noisy city) on a windy evening... if you are sitting in a very windy area the wind can block out all other sounds all you hear is air, silence... I thought it was more profound at the time, but your podcast reminded me of that (or a reflection of the idea).

If you wanted a more 'free speech' platform frizbee
I clicked the link it is a printing service in the UK. Are you saying that the only free speech medium is mom and pop printers?
yeah, that sounds more likely, but still earthlings spread.
Mine was:
I really like hubski, but my only complaint is that it is small and not much content. It needs to grow, and the only way its going to grow is if people post stuff, so post away my friend, post away!
Or, could you do that for me?
Google+ is pretty good. I had forgotten about it for the past few months, at the time it helped me get off of facebook... now I see it will help me with the reddit... google+ is still that secluded mountain top with just a few tents, but the view is amazing (the news feed).
Better off ted. I should really re-watch that show, I hardly remember it but I know that it just ended, so sad. I also enjoyed Flashforward, it was cancelled for good reason I guess, but I liked it and it ended on such a cliff hanger for the next season.
That's not good.
