Journalism award? First place?

Halfway into my twenty-eighth year myself, and though I feel muchly similar pain, I do it without such accolades and potential. I get tired of lying to myself that I'll be okay, maybe, some day, eventually.

I don't want to Be Someone, I just want to know who I am.

I'll just leave this here.

I am very much not trying to advocate banning a historical symbol, especially since I'm one of those people who go out of their way to read banned books, so such a consideration would be hypocrisy.

While I'm not a fan of the flag flying over a government building, and a big fan of the talking being done about whether it belongs there, I agree that Ms Newsome was in the wrong when she took it down.

I'm also a big advocate of freedom of speech, regardless whether I agree with the speech or the statement being made. If the end result of this mess is to put the flag back on the pole, then I won't advocate increased hostilities. I'll grumble about it, but I won't advocate -- I don't advocate -- violence.

violent: using or involving the use of physical force to cause harm or damage to someone or something

via Merriam-Webster Online

Petty violence perhaps, but yes, defacing property is an act of violence.

My argument is "defacing property is an act of violence."

"Defacing" by definition is alteration without permission, whether by act of adding of removing some feature.

That's why I think codes like this are a good idea: it succinctly summarizes a persons complete orientation, which has a significant chance of being a convoluted mess (we are, after all, only human) and one word (like asexual, pansexual, bi, straight, etc) can't and shouldn't be expected to cover the depth and richness of possibilities.

I think the character strings are cute, personally, especially when they're primarily lowercase.

No, if it were satire, it would have a satire tag on it.

Personally, I'm not happy with how the entry came out, but I'm a little short on material right now, so I've been digging through my idea archive and polishing.

Get rid of my car and bike more. Move to warmer climates. Write more. Work on furthering my education.

I suspect he'd likely stop the crowdfunding once he gets his subsidized income, but I'm not inclined to take that on as an act of faith, especially if I were one of his donors. I'm not one of his donors, and never will be; I unfortunately, am not one of those people who can depend on my charisma to pay my bills, regardless how minimalistic of a life I lead.

This is the first I've heard of the concept outside of science-fiction.

While I'm glad to hear someone it working on the problem, and with what seems like a decent head on their shoulders, I feel like starting in the US is a bad idea. It's not so much the people as it is the size of the country. The solution (and the problem) may not be easily scalable (or scalable at all).

Even if it were done to satisfaction in England, which scales to about the size of the state of Illinois, I think it would be easier for Americans to start thinking "Yeah, maybe we could do that too." England is also a primarily English-speaking country, which also aids in translation-free cross-communication and sharing of ideas.

dreamclassier  ·  3479 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Do you desire power?

Without further contextualization, I would be very hesitant to call power coupled with attention a negative or bad thing, but off the top of my head, I can garner up a short list of things one could do with a sated desire for power and attention, and the majority are malicious.

Or maybe that's just my head.

dreamclassier  ·  3480 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Do you desire power?

I think I'd be hard-pressed to find someone who could honestly answer "No."

I too desire power, but I don't desire attention. I desire power for the sake of making myself as independent and autonomous from society and "modern" civilisation as possible, but I have little desire to bring attention to myself, or "show off" holes in the "traditional" way of living.

That's been a concern of mine for some time, and I've been playing since 2013. It hasn't happened yet. If anything the game has taught me to stop taking things so personally. My local area's downtown flips about every two days; you could almost set your calendar by it.

As much as it is a grand idea, it's giving an opportunity for people who are already lax on personal responsibility to be lax further. I offer the same argument against "effiency" software that disables internet access or blocks certain websites during "working hours." Grow some discipline and self-control already!
