I don't know if it's considered a classic or not, but Ghost in the Shell is probably one of the best sci-fi anime movies that I've seen.

That sounds great!

I may have to whip out my bass and see what happens...

balkansk  ·  3429 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: What food would you like to always have on hand?

Sushi.

If there was a practical way to transport it and keep it as fresh as it was when it was just rolled, you can bet your money I would have some on me 24/7.

balkansk  ·  3429 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Me [31 M] with my girlfriend [29 F] of 3 years, am I wasting her life?

I had a few paragraphs worth of response to your original post when I reread it again and something really stood out to me - how do you really feel about your girlfriend? You don't have to respond, I'm just asking rhetorically.

If you're willing to end the relationship just because she wants to get married and she's not willing to put any work in unless you do get married, it sounds like it would be unfair to both of you to stay together unless you have some sort of long term idea of where you want your relationship to go.

It's really easy to get caught up in the status quo - we as people don't like change and will tolerate some pretty surprising things just to prevent it. I've been in a relationship where we didn't agree on major topics like marriage and kids, but we stayed together because it was the convenient thing to do. I think we both hoped that something would change, but inevitably were apathetic to that end because we were on "relationship cruise control". Now, I'm happily married (to someone else) and in retrospect, I'm glad I ended that relationship. My ex is also happily married and has a couple of kids. It worked out better for both of us to just end it.

I'm not one of those feel-good people that's always going to tell you to work it out. That's why I asked you how you really feel about your girlfriend. Sometimes, it just makes more sense for both parties to move on.

Best of luck to the both of you.

That's the same general idea that I got from Windows 10 as well. Throw in the fact that we're finally looking at a stable uniform platform between tablets, cell phones, and PCs and Windows 10 has the potential to be a landmark OS.

balkansk  ·  3435 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: What's with all the /deadlink timeouts?

I've been getting a lot of these too, but I would imagine that has something to do with the increased volume of traffic to this site. Alexa.com wouldn't give me historical access data, but there was this:

http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/https%3A%2F%2Fhubski.com

Check out towards the bottom the upstream sites - that indicates a lot of Reddit users have been hitting this place (that's how I found it, too) and are probably putting more load on the Hubski servers than usual.

If you're ever in the Chi-town area again and need some ideas or suggestions of where to go and what to do, hit me up and I can give you some ideas. Those towers that you pictured above are right next to the House of Blues and a restaurant/bar called Dick's Last Resort - definitely places worth checking out when you're in town.

Love the pictures of the Tetons and especially Lake McDonald. Awesome post and an incredible journey, hope to see more in the future!

balkansk  ·  3435 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: 5 SIMPLE RECIPES TO KEEP COOL IN THE SUMMER SUN

For an interesting twist to a Caprese salad (or a bastardization depending on who you ask) I like to use the following:

Tomatoes, Fresh Mozzarella, Basil, Avocado, Garlic, Olive Oil, Balsamic Glaze, Salt, Pepper.

Layer the tomato, avocado, mozzarella and basil leaves the way you would normally for a Caprese. Press one small clove of garlic (you can even use 1/2) in a garlic press and mix it with the olive oil, salt, and pepper as your dressing. To complete the salad, drizzle some balsamic glaze across the top.

It makes for a nice presentation and a very tasty, refreshing summer salad! I like to serve mine right away, but if you want to make it before a party or dinner, toss the avocado with a bit of lemon before hand so it doesn't oxidize, or add that right before serving.

I have to say, that watermelon gazpacho sounds very different and interesting (in a good way). I might have to make it on a hot day.

Just moved from Reddit today as well. That place was really getting toxic and unbearable.

The first few hours that I've been here on Hubski, I'm already loving it. Seems like a much more laid back place with much friendlier people. I think I may have found my new home page.

balkansk  ·  3435 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Nostalgia and food

Hey there - I'm in the west suburbs of Chicago, but Michigan is probably my favorite place to visit in the world. I'm planning a camping trip for the end of July to visit Glen Arbor and Sleeping Bear Dunes, Northport, Traverse City, and Mackinaw. I'm new to Hubski and had no idea it was based out of Ann Arbor, but that just makes me like it that much more! Might have to keep track of one of those Hubski meetings.

Two Hearted is fantastic, that's for sure. I associate Oberon with that particular memory because the first time I tried it was chilled from a bottle sitting on my beach chair overlooking Sleeping Bear Bay. Something about it just brings me back to that moment. Love me some Bell's Brewing ever since.

Heck yeah, was it delicious! I'm still trying to figure out how she made it. Found some old handwritten Bulgarian cookbooks I'm trying to decipher and see if I can find that secret ingredient that made hers special.

And thanks for the welcome! I'm already enjoying this community - great vibe from day 1.

Ah, there's nothing quite like a cold, refreshing beer to bring back memories. For me it's Oberon Ale by Bell's Brewing that reminds me of camping in northern Michigan - kickin' it back on a beach or grilling at the campsite. Good times.

Another thing would be my grandma's Bulgarian vinen kebab which is braised beef with a stewed tomato and wine sauce served with homemade mashed potatoes. Even though my grams is not around anymore and it was her own secret recipe, just thinking about it hits me in the nostalgia.

New guy here as well. I'm in the outer 'burbs of Chicago, but am originally from Sofia, Bulgaria.

And I wish I was on holiday - I would love to be sitting on a beach somewhere that's not southern Lake Michigan.

balkansk  ·  3435 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: 'Grassroots movement working': Bernie Sanders gains on the Clinton machine

The difference between Bernie Sanders and the other candidates, in this respect, is that Bernie has flat out refused to accept super PAC support. Most of his money is coming directly from people that support him:

"Aides to Mr. Sanders said that since April 30, nearly 400,000 contributions had come into the campaign, with 99 percent of those donations in increments of $250 or less."

Source: http://www.nytimes.com/politics/first-draft/2015/07/02/bernie-sanders-raises-15-million-from-a-wide-donor-base/

Whichever source we choose to believe for the number of donors, you also can't deny his history of accepting contributions either. He has quite the clean record:

I have a ton of respect for Bernie Sanders, and I know that if he wins the nomination and the election it will truly be because of popular support rather than clever campaigning and rich contributors.

EDIT: Also for the curious, check out Hillary Clinton's contributors and compare them to Bernie Sanders' donors.

balkansk  ·  3435 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: 20 years from now what will you have wish you had done?

Your question got me thinking about a lot of things. I can't say what the next 20 years of my life hold, but I want to be able to look back and say "I enjoyed every single day for what it was". Sure, there are a lot of milestones that I want to reach, but I think it's going to be more of enjoying the ride than striving for a destination.
