I know we all have a favorite food but then there's the more practical food/snack items that would be great to never run out of . For me, my favorite food is ribs . However, the food I would want to always have available is either those S'mores Oreos, or White Cheddar Cheez-Its . I recognize that these are not very healthy, but they're so dang good . For a healthier fave, I'd love to always have fresh pineapple on hand at a moment's notice . What about you guys ?
Chocolate wafers! It IS unhealthy but if someone can replace the ingredients with wheat flour and dark chocolate, I'll eat it every second.
...except that it is not cheap. Gah.
Nuts also comes in mind. BUT WHY DO THEY HAVE TO BE THAT EXPENSIVE?
I'd have to say some soft wheat bread, peanut butter, and strawberry jam or preserves. And milk.
Healthy: An everfull produce drawer with leaf lettuce, savoy cabbage, vine ripened tomatos, leeks, green onion, Brussels sprouts and broccoli. Less healthy: Cases and cases and cases of fancy ramen. Cured meats, like salami and such. Cheeses. Guilty: Butter Tarts and Cheesecake.
This might sound boring but I love having some good cheese, meat and bread around. Its kinda plain but to me they are the essentials.
Having been in SEA primarily Vietnam for the past year, I would LOVE to have some pretzels (sourdough) on hand at all times, preferably with some garlic hummus to dip them in.. Damn do I miss Pretzels :(
I pretty much always want kettle cooked chips. I just love the texture and the oily goodness that they are.
Pretzels. Preferably sourdough. Bachman makes a great sourdough pretzel.
I pretty much always have jerky on hand. I don't eat it a lot, but it's great to just be able to get it out of the cupboard for a snack, especially during the NFL season.
I'd recommend these guys if you're UK based. I don't know if they ship internationally but it wouldn't hurt to ask. They have a few things on Etsy too.
Chicken. Preferably thigh meat (tastes better, is juicier than breast meat), unless I plan on making chicken katsu or chicken tenders/nuggets, then breast meat. Also, pomegranates. Delicious, juicy, and extremely versatile. Great on yogurt and salads. The base to many great drinks and can add a nice flavor to smoothies. Can be used as the base of a marinade for chicken.
Ham is so great to have on a moment's notice. In a couple of minutes, I can have a good lunchmeat sandwich going. If I'm feeling fancy, then I can throw it in a pan with a slice of cheese and toast the bread. Also, I can throw it some eggs and have some nice scrambled eggs and ham.
If I could have any food on hand, I'd have to have steak, potatoes, and cheese. So much variety!
Artificially flavored bulalo ramen off all things. I normally like making things from scratch but this stuff has great aroma, an above average yield of comforting broth and is all around a great snack when I feel like crap. Just found a good source for it too, which helps.
Almond milk. Sprouted whole grain bread. Roma tomatoes. Spinach/baby greens. Romano cheese. Mayo. Cooked brown rice. Broccoli. Brussel sprouts. Sliced almonds. Canned black beans. Full array of Trader Joe's bottled spices. Olive oil. Eggs. If I had a Trader Joe's within easy walking distance, or free weekly delivery of these things, I'd eat SO much healthier.
Pineapple is a good choice, it's my favorite fruit. White Cheddar Cheez-Its are good but the Hot & Spicy Cheez-Its are way better in my book. I'd probably go with those.
