Oh wow nice! I've been trying to fix my record player for a couple of weeks, the turntable stopped spinning.

Awesome! This is exactly what I wanted, that mans voice is fantastic and King Gizzard really evoke that western film sound, similar to Ennio Morriconne (The Good the bad and the ugly soundtrack composer)

I've had bouts of that, its no better than the late night insomnia because you still end up tired all day.

Could someone more musically competent than me explain the chords played on piano? I mean in the sense is it in minor key or something, this song and a few similar evoke a great emotion in my AI can't rightly name. Kind of a everything-is-fucked-ehich-is-sad-but-im-happy-about-it.

Same reason I gave up on Ultimate Guitar. Used to be the best site for guitar tableture, now you can't load tabs on mobile without having their app forced down your throat.

Ah yes!I forgot about the blackcurrant!

Kerbobotat  ·  3369 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Hubski, have you ever been on anti-depressants? What was it like?

What I've found with them, is that you don't feel bad, but you also don't feel especially good. You just feel kind of..middle of the road. It's good, you'll be alright with things, and that feeling in itself is a great relief.

FWIW, I was on mood stabilising drugs, which I think are what antidepressants are here.

Kerbobotat  ·  3370 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Dear Hubski, Is Art Subjective or Objective and how do we Determine Good Art?

Personally, I hate a lot of modern and post modern art. Some of it, like the silent composition, or a completely blank canvas, intended to make a statement, are purely stupid to me. Picassos guernica to me, is nothing special, it looks like a childs attempt. The concept I get, but II feel I only enjoy art I can appreciate on a technical and aesthetic level. Yet there are technically brilliant pieces of art that I don't even get a reaction to, I find them boring.

Your own personal life experience will shape what you consider to be "good art". Which sounds like I'm arguing in favor of subjectivity, yet you can still make bad art, in my opinion. It's just not binary, things can have redeeming features, ita a rare piece of art that doesn't even have one.

Kerbobotat  ·  3376 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: What is your greatest weakness?

I'm unable to take a compliment.

Lately I've been getting more involved in art, something I've loved my whole life. I'm not bad, per say, but obviously improvements can always be made (that's the main reason I drawing something every day) Its impossible for me not to feel like an imposter, someone will comment on a picture (Literally just now I got a bunch of "wow!" And "that's amazing!" Comments on Facebook on my latest one) and I immediately think 'are they being sarcastic?'

That's why I've been posting some stuff here on hubski, part of it is getting myself out there, trying to learn to take praise, and actually be proud of what I do. I still prefer when people tell me "its good but x is wrong/could be done better if you try like this". I'd rather people criticise my faults so I can improve than just outright compliment me.

Kerbobotat  ·  3378 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: A self portrait, painting your own face is incredibly hard

Just Westeros for this one, with the heraldry for the major houses on the corners. I'd love to do a full map of the world with everything from the summer isles across to the shadowlands, but its a huge undertaking!

Fantastic track! Part of my brain was expecting tambourine in there and clapping rhythm, I'm not sure why. It reminds me a lot of Alexander Ebert (Of Edward Sharpe &Magnetic Zeroes fame)

Kerbobotat  ·  3379 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Still here, still drawing every day. Would love some feedback!

It's actually quite small, ( I drew it in a notebook, smaller than a5) so I don't think it would work great in a frame unfortunately. Still thanks for the compliment!

Thanks for the feedback hats! I'm still figuring out perspective and figure drawing so the dimensions are a little wonky at times (his right foot will haint my dreams forever) I haven't used oil pastels but I'll pick up a set and give them a go. Playing around with acrylic paint at the moment, I hope to put up something soon.

That looks awesome! By all means feel free to remix and edit what I post. No title for it yet, not sure what to call it, but I'm open to suggestions.

Kerbobotat  ·  3379 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Still here, still drawing every day. Would love some feedback!

Thanks for the input! Still learning image composition, I have to actually start planning ahead of what I colour because I still haven't grasped it entirely.

I thought maybe it was the camera/lighting that did that, anywhere you'd reccomending for uncompressed photos?

Kerbobotat  ·  3393 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Brave Adventurer - A D&D/Tabletop RPG inspired drawing

Thanks cedar! I'm a dredmore fan myself so perhaps that was part inspiration for this, I've found my favourite thing to draw is weird and fantasy landscapes and pictures like this. I've done a few still life drawings and things but just found them kind of..dull.

Kerbobotat  ·  3394 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Libraries are the future of manufacturing in the United States

Probably, but organisation is key, you could talk to your local librarian about things like this, organist support from other interested people and fundraise to buy the needed equipment. I'm sure they'd be delighted in helping more people have access and a reason to use a library.

That made the hairs stand up on the back of my neck! It was frantic and intense and then around 6:30 it drifted into the slow mournful tune not unlike what I had in my head from the story. I loved it, and now I need to reread it :)

Sample Answer - Good Boy

Heard him on the local radio this morning. He's Irish and just putting out an album. I've been whistling it all day, love that haunted sound

Thanks! Yeah it took me until I finished to spot the error in perspective on the cabin. I went at it freehand when I should have lined it out with a straight edge beforehand. The background I was attempting to gradually fade from the darker blue to lighter near the bottom (with the intention of painting in clouds on the bottom left, but lack of experience with watercolours soiled that plan!

Kerbobotat  ·  3398 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Alright, #letsdoit. Here's some shit I drew

I think it looks great, only issue been what you've pointed out yourself, that the eyes are bigger than normal. Really great colour choices though! In regards to the comic, I like the style of black on white, especially the second last panel, maybe consider adding more white to each scene for a better contrast with the shadow?

Overall, keep it up man! I know how hard it is to appreciate anything you do yourself but its a barrier to cross, like learning perspective or shading techniques.

I've gotten great feed back on my last two posts with the #art tag, its inspired me to draw more and more, I hope it does for you too!

No direct reference photos but just working from memory on things I've seen before. I'm still getting the hang of blending and consistent solid colours with watercolours. Thanks for the feedback!

Initially it was clouds on the bottom left, and a gradual fade from the darker blue to a lighter one, but my lack of experience ruined that plan and it became solid blue. You're not the first person to point it out it looks like a wave about to crash :) I think I painted the mountains a touch too high, closer to the middle of the canvas might have helped with the perspective.

Kerbobotat  ·  3402 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Can I get some no nonsense honest critique of some art?

I get what you mean, my issue is I feel my friends can be creative "yes men" as they are all musicians or artists or writers in one form or another who find it hard to honestly critique each others work. Even myself, only recently told a friend I hated a song he wrote. I tried to be honest about why I didn't like it and as helpful as s to why I felt that way. He didn't take it well.

As for what I was trying to achieve; I'm not sure to be honest. When I draw its usually spontaneous. Out some music on and sit for a few hours and start out and see what comes to me. Mostly I think this was influenced by the music I was listening to at the time (Electric Wizard) so I'd hazard a guess and say 80s swords and sorcery fantasy a la Conan the barbarian and dungeons and dragons. The evils wizards library, strange tonics and occult books of power, that kind of thing.

I've always had a huge interest in the old role playing games art style, black and white drawings on yellowed paper of fantastical landscapes and heroes and monsters.

Thanks! I'm quite a fan of Vasquez from Johnny the Homicidal maniac and invader zim. I love the style and themes he uses.

Thanks for the comment. I'm getting some great and honest criticism here which I love. Makes me want to post some more drawings and get more feedback so I can improve!

Thanks! I enjoy going into a lot of detail in drawings, kind of get lost in it adding little parts here and there while listening to music. Unfortunately sometimes I lose sight of the greater picture and the whole piece kind of loses focus.
