Nujabes was really an incredible artist. Over the past few years my taste in music has changed pretty dramatically, but I've never stopped listening to his music. Do you know many artists with a similar style to his? It'd be great to have some new stuff to put on my iPod.
If you haven't heard of, you should definitely check out Umaya Hiroto. A Son of the Sun and its sequel are two great chillhop albums. In that same genre, there's also Blazo (a personal fave after Hiroto and Nujabes), LJones, Sinutus Tempo, and SoulChef's instrumental work.
Hop Along : Waitress. Hearing this makes me feel like I'm 16 again. I like it. Singer has a great voice.
Hop Along and THEEsatisfaction weren't exactly overlooked but that's a good list of music.
Neither do I. Guess that's why they're overlooked.
I have to listen to a lot of country at work and it's just the worst shit but I like this Dixie Chicks song It hits a lot of the Nashville bases but I still like it. And they aren't afraid to speak out even if it basically cost them their careers. Never thought I'd like a Dixie Chicks song.
Post 80's mainstream country is God awful. You need to go off the beaten path to find the good stuff. Basically, if it's on commercial radio, it's probably not something you want to hear.I have to listen to a lot of country at work and it's just the worst shit
Bro country is an anathema to culture. I have a Spotify playlist dedicated to how awful Nashville is and no one should listen to it. Luke Bryan is disproportionately represented in it. I like a couple Garth Brooks songs but I'm saving them for a guilty pleasures thread. Current country makes him look like the new Johnny Cash who stepped out of a country-western wear store.
The Devil Makes Three is a hell of a lot of fun. I introduced them to my wife who in turn introduced me to Pokey LaFarge. When I want to show people that there is still good country out there, Justin Townes Earle is my go to guy. He's actually on the same label as Lydia Loveless. Drive by Truckers is always a safe bet too. Because people, me included, love to lump alt country/bluegrass/old-timey music all under one category, I'm often quick to share Old Crow Medicine Show and Trampled by Turtles as well.
Listened to REM Automatic For the People for the first time in a long while:
I've been cranking old school lately. IRON MAIDEN
I love Iron Maiden. Their first album was the best. Have you seen Flight 666? Sam Dunn is a musical anthropologist who was done a few great docs about the metal scene.
Of course I've seen it! :) I got into Maiden later thanks to a sheltered upbringing. And I get spit on sometimes for saying this, but Futureal is what I listen to more than any other of their albums. The Clansman for example. And Angel and the Gambler Fortunately all Maiden is good Maiden. Rock on!
I bought their first on the first day it was available as I had seen a segment about it on a New Music show. I recently rediscovered thanks to putting my iPod on random!
Saint Pepsi - Hit Vibes
Been listening to a bunch of vaporwave/future funk stuff after discovering the subgenre last Sunday. The entire album that song is from is probably my favorite thing I've listened to so far. I also found 新しい日の誕生 (Birth of a New Day) by 2814, an album that, simply put, sounds like Blade Runner:
Skylar Spence is great, one of the defining people from the vaporwave genre/subculture. shanoxilt is also into that stuff a lot if I'm remembering right. Might end up seeing Skylar live in a couple months, juries still out on that one. Birth of a New Day is kind of blowing my mind right now, glad you shared that!
Ah, that's right. Sorry about confusing your interest in the two. I should revisit oceangrunge.
Health's new record Death Magic is fantastic.
Eisbrecher's Fehler Machen Leute. Not only is the music superbly energetic, but the lyrics are in tone with what I'm experiencing right now. The title of the song means, in German, "People make mistakes". It's a song about people not being perfect, no matter how it might seem. Eisbrecher, in general, has been a blessing for me to find: many of their songs resonate with me, both in tone and because they're sung in German. Michael Hunter's Soviet Connection (used as one of the tracks for GTA IV) is simply a brilliant piece of instrumental music that's a joy to listen. Sporty-O's Let Me Hit It (couldn't find the concentrated/shorter version at a glance). I haven't been a fan of dubstep for a while now, but this track I don't want to give up. It's energetic, with just the right amount of dirty sound.
Someone told me about this song recently, and it's great. Perfect summer song. John Butler Trio - Better Than:
I have no idea why I have had this song in my head since I woke up. Don McLeans' American Pie. And also to be conceptually inconsistent some Gin and Juice And that led me to this Wiz Khalifa's Black and Yellow. I think it is so funny that he lives on a horse farm outside of Pittsburgh.
Not cool dude, not cool. :)I have no idea why I have had this song in my head since I woke up. Don McLeans' American Pie.
You do realize that every person that reads your comment will also now have that song in their head, right?
Yep. I am an ass. :) I wonder how that happens that you get a song stuck in your head. I think it is called an earworm.
Sample Answer - Good Boy
Heard him on the local radio this morning. He's Irish and just putting out an album. I've been whistling it all day, love that haunted sound
Flaming Lips' 50-minute Record Store day release of 7 SkiesH3. Intense, somehow: And, somewhat guiltily, this shit– they've nailed some Radiohead-level climaxes: And, unapologetically, this shit:
True Detective finale tonight. High as a kite binging on Season's Uno y Dos. Perfectly good waste of a Sunday.
Did you ever watch Six Feet Under? I my mind that is the greatest final scene in television history,
Van Canto - A German (most lyrics in English) metal band composed of five vocalists, and one drummer/keyboardist, making them a five-sixths a capella band. "If I Die in Battle" got me to fall in love with them instantly. (That guitar solo is not a guitar solo, by the way... that's a voice!)
