Wow this is the first circlejerking I've seen on Hubski. I understand that it is in regards to Reddit but I hope it ends here.
sigh... Upjerked.
Good job compiling this. I would like to suggest another feature. When ignoring a user, have their comments hidden from you. So far I've had no issue with ignores not saving, but I would like it if a user I ignore never showed up for me in comment threads. Instead of having their name crossed out they would simply be totally hidden and I would never see the comment. Not 100% sure that this is a good idea but I would like to have the option.
Streaming high-definition video.
Ooh I love this.
I installed it and have browsed Hubski for about 5 minutes testing each of the Enhancement Suite's features. First of all, the Auto loading new posts while scrolling works very nicely, the new posts are loading extremely quickly, I'm impressed. The collapsing comments works great. And the unicode arrows are an improvement on a previous comment collapsing scrips I have seen. All the keyboard shortcuts work and are not difficult to remember. I'm really happy with the suite so far, thanks for putting in the work.
One more thing I'd like to see is a section in the user control panel devoted to HES which allows a user to individually turn on/off each feature of HES. For example I could turn off comment collapsing, but keep on Autoloading posts and keyboard shortcuts.
That is a luxury I know people would enjoy. Great work Josh.
An interesting suggestion raised by a commenter on the article:
It's not what they're doing, but what could be
done; living cell arranged in such a controlled way could easily build replacement organs or even limbs, opening a whole new field in medicine and giving hope to thousands.
This is a really neat possibility. We aren't exactly lacking hamburgers in the world, so once the meat-printing tests move forward, if this 3D printing of bio-material becomes cheaper and more accessible, we could possibly print 'real' human muscle or skin etc. that could be used in replacement of skin grafts on burn victims for example.
Also perhaps in the more distant future the chance to print entire limbs of people to transplant on. The medical appplications of 3D bio-printing is the direction I can see this heading. Very cool stuff.
Theoretically, if you had a portion of this super-food, which was the size of a piece of gum, yet had enough nutrients packed into it to sustain you for a full day. Similar to Willy Wonka's gum. Would you still feel hunger? I have a feeling that even with the perfect energy and nutrients in a tiny portion, still lacks the volume required to fill your stomach. Still an good point/idea with amazing potential.
Wow! I'm impressed! That's a really cool, unique idea. You could sell things like that on Etsy, if you were so inclined.
I can't remember how I found them, but lately I have been enjoying Fat Freddys Drop. FFD are really chill, smooth and enjoyable to listen to. I reccomend giving them a listen. A few notable tracks are Rain, This Room, and Wandering EyeFat Freddy’s Drop is a New Zealand seven-piece band from Wellington, whose musical style has been characterised as any combination of dub, reggae, soul, jazz, rhythm and blues, and techno.
Ok, I hadn't noticed that. Problem still exists if the ignored user is a reply to a top comment, but I guess I can live with it.
I don't think Hubski needs to be more colourful. The Grey theme is complimented well by the simple touches of orange and blue. If the hubski wheels were to be given stages of colour depending on the amount of shares, then the colour set would have to be monochromatic. Otherwise any page would look very messy if there were wheels of every colour scattered across the page. I really like the idea of colour stages but I believe the colours would have to begin with a very light blue, or even a light grey, then progress into slightly darker blues as it was continued to be voted on, a post which may have hundreds or even thousands of shares eventually may even reach the colour black. I really like the idea, but my point is that the wheels would have to be monochromatic. Making Hubski more colourful isn't necessary.
Ah, I see. That does make a lot more sense. Poor choice of title for that article then, shouldn't have used the phrase "replace".
As an Australian, I really enjoy not-having guns everywhere. Why do Americans hold on so tightly to a Bill of Rights, or a Constitution, when it has become such an outdated scripture and could use some reform?
I picked that one too. Strangely though there was not any one in particular that I 100% agreed with.
I've seen mk or thenewgreen comment on this somewhere... They made the point that this is intentional, so that users will not be discouraged to comment on a topic just because it is old. Let the conversation stay relevant for longer.
Great work minimum_wage, this was something I had suggested and wished for. Glad I can navigate comments a bit easier now. Found one bug with it though, if you click a users name, to bring up their profile, it also collapses their comment thread in the background. It shouldn't do this.
So why are you telling Hubski this?
I'd say work only counts if you're passionate about what you do. If you voluntarily bring work home with you because you want to keep going, then it's a hobby. And lol gotta love sea monkeys. I haven't had those little guys in years.
Try Australia; ice hockey's near-unheard of. I think there's only two rinks in my entire state. Oh, and it never snows here so we don't get frozen lakes.
Looks like reddit is #2 after circlejerk. Not at all surprising.
Ok, so today Hubski has around 6000 users. It's very small in the scheme of the internet, but it's functioning well and the users are enjoying it. it's a small community, the submitted content is of high quality and groups of friends are seeming to appear. Now imagine if Hubski had one million users (I hope that one day it will, and expect a lot of them to come from reddit), the site would move a lot faster. You could refresh the Global page and see an entire new selection of submissions.
Each tag group would have a lot more content. And I can imagine it would be of lesser quality, but more appealing to a simple mind. The reason for this is that I predict that some, probably many users will begin attempting to 'whore' followers and badges, for the same reason that people karma-whore on reddit; people want to be rewarded by something, and see their stats grow. The way they will do this is by submitting lots of content, but things which take less than ten seconds to look at, agree with, and click the share wheel. Thus getting lots of attention, very quickly, and consequently bringing down the quality of the site. With all this possibility of bad things to come with growth, the things which have made me dislike Reddit, I hope that Hubski's system of following users rather than categories will eliminate any negative consequences of having a massive amount of users. Also the ignoring system seems to work fairly well.
I'm a new user to Hubski but I have high hopes for this place and I will continue to visit. I greatly anticipate its future. --- Also Reddit seems to be a very hot-topic of discussion on Hubski as of late. I hope that it wont always be so relevant.
Well good luck to those kids when they do their state-standardized exams.
“No honey,” she said. “That’s the URL bar.” Sounds like somebody needs to get google chrome :P“But I thought the browser was the little text box on top of the screen, where I type in what I’m looking to find on Google.”
I feel at ease now but... Holy shit, that is still scary!the asteroid will make history with the closest flyby of an asteroid its size when it grazes the planet's atmosphere at 19,400 miles above Earth's surface.
Thanks for the original link.
1999 All over again?
Oh yeah, my username... Not related.
I held similar apprehensions. Google already knows too much about me. Giving Google control over a physical (as opposed to digital) records of me approaches a limit of personal privacy.
Wow I had no Idea the place was still in such a state of devastation. It really was bad. On another note, I really love theatlantic.com's In Focus photography sets. HERE is one of my favorites.
