Wikipedia is the world's encyclopedia of whoever got in the last edit.

I played the Avalon Hill games a lot - Twixt and Acquire were two favorites.

There were plenty of games of Mastermind along the way, and mindless hours playing Yahtzee.

Steve Jackson Games had "microgames" which were really cheap and fun as wargames - anyone play Ogre or GEV?

Some collected news clippings, including video of the announcement and the Onion's take on it, here

Most of the news so far has been the sort of non-news that comes from a complete and utter lack of detail coming from North Korea other than what the state-run media produces.

DNS is an old protocol; it's not impossible to imagine something else that does gethostbyname() without a centralized service.

After all, for a time people navigated through UUCP by exchanging files that had maps of what was connected to what.

(I can just see network addresses scribbled longhand on bathroom walls as a revolutionary new medium of dissent.)

sounds like a reason to build address book features into hubski.

I've seen Wisconsin as a fist - left hand, with the tip of the thumb being the Apostle Islands, and the curled up pinky as Door County.
The corollary, if the essay is true, is that good social networks should be a little bit hard to use or hard to find. If you are working within the biggest corner of the net on the easiest to use interface, there will be so much there that you have everything (and thus, nothing).

We've made other liqueurs before, but never the cranberry. Let me dig for recipes, just a second....

http://vielmetti.typepad.com/vacuum/2008/07/making-fruit-li....

and here's one of the ones I collected, a strawberry liqueur, from the delightful blog Cottage Smallholder

Here's a cranberry liqueur recipe, using vodka:

http://www.guntheranderson.com/liqueurs/cranberr.htm

"Following is a complete how-to for my favorite recipe, Cranberry Liqueur. It covers in detail a number of issues which are taken for granted in other recipes here. It's probably a good introduction to read through before starting one of your own."

I remember going to Windsor for dim sum for the first time and having the hostess offer me "chickafee" and wondering "hm, that chickafee looks pretty good". It was chicken feet.

I googled the googlenews archives and started to find cheeseburgers to be regular items on menus post-World War Two. (Lots of cheeseburgers in 1950 compared to 1930, let's say.)

Cranberries are easy, if you have a cranberry bog nearby. Otherwise you hope you have someone who does have them to bring them to market. I love the idea of brandied cranberries (or cranberry brandy), yum.

The takeaway I have is that it's imperative to try, because every other network structure out there also requires planning and is hard at scale as well.

Yup, one and the same.

The whole station thing is here

with tune in links etc etc. I haven't listened to all of the shows but several look promising.
