The corollary, if the essay is true, is that good social networks should be a little bit hard to use or hard to find. If you are working within the biggest corner of the net on the easiest to use interface, there will be so much there that you have everything (and thus, nothing).
I would say that there's truth to that. At least, the network should be able to be fragmented into quieter parts. I think that might be where the big ones shoot themselves in the foot. They overvalue connection, and undervalue the ability to disconnect. Google+ just started integrating with my gmail. :/
