I have not seen Biredemic or Human Centipede - but I'm pretty sure that comparing either to the Big Lebowski is a bit like comparing apples to orangoutangs.

Sure some movies are made to be serious and end up being really bad and campy.

Others are made to be "bad" and campy from the start, and in doing so, apply varying levels of artistic precision in the process.

Most movies in the first category are fairly one dimensional - something like TBL is a lot deeper and multi-faceted. While a bit ridiculous at times - there are a lot of levels going on under that seemingly silly exterior which make for a much more more compelling film.

this is a great catch - I like the different colors in the door panels and other textures and shapes

yup - I agree it is good to find a trusted place where people give honest feedback even if it is not one of your best "keepers" - still good to understand whey people like a photo or not and why...

although - once you get out of the realm of whether photos have proper composition, exposure and other technical qualities - it is a whole other can of worms, subject to much personal opinion, about whether an image is "good" or not.

yes you would normally set your exposure based on stops etc... does your camera have "bulb mode"?

as for calculating manually - you can work out stops and shutter speed increments or use something like this chart http://www.alexwisephotography.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2...

This one is a bit of a cheat - as I didn't' just go take it for the challenge (but did shoot it recently) but it perfectly encapsulates "blue" for me - so there ya go

Colors were tweaked somewhat in Lightroom, hence the bluer than normal tone, but not too far off the original

gotcha

I was looking at some of your other shots on Flickr (linked in your other post) - you've got some nice images and landscapes - with a bit more definitive compositions and some interesting lines going through the images etc...

this one is just a bit flat I think in comparison - it needs something to draw the eye through the image

thanks

ha good point - that machine gun theremin might be overpowering :) I suspect it is meant to be electric but would have to double check to know for sure

thanks for the welcome - that sounds like a great project - please send a link if you find it

yeah - I'd be interested to hear more music as well, but I think it's a great concept and statement regardless.

It's a nice enough mono but not a lot going on in terms of a definitive subject or point of interest

what caught your interest about this scene? Were there some other elements in this scene that you might have zoomed in on for a more compelling photo ?

farfinfar  ·  4267 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Am I improving?

what kind of filters are you using to block light ?

I've been pretty happy with a Singh Ray 5 stop filter which works pretty well for getting longer daylight exposures http://www.singh-ray.com/morslo.html

I think they just released a 10 stop version not too long ago as well.
