Love the first track! Too catchy. Also Hosono produced apparently. Fun fact: his grandfather was a Titanic survivor and also the only Japanese onboard.
Bonus vid: this endearing performance of YMO on The Soul Train:
Yes! I wonder how and why this became popular in the last couple of years. Maybe it’s because most of these albums are all up on YouTube, and because it’s good music of course. I already plugged this blog in the last weekly music thread but it’s especially relevant here so I’ll plug it again. www.listentothis.org. There’s some other genres/styles on there as well (also awesome!) but there’s a load of Japanse pop and ambient with some nice background info and handy download links. The author of that blog made this 80’s Japanese pop mix which I really enjoyed and maybe have listened to too many times. She also does weekly(?) mixes on NTS which are always interesting. I see a few Haruami Hosono albums in the image but do check his later albums as well. He’s really varied in style but all have that typical Hosono wonkyness. It might be hard to pick one favourite album out of the wormhole that is his discography but can heartily recommend his album “N.D.E.”. It’s a little more electronic/ambient/techno-y than pop though.
Man that Claudette Soares jam is good! There's so much good Brazilian music I have yet to discover. Recently came upon this Gal Costa track. Rest of the album this was on was OK, this one really stands out for me.
The whole album is great I've been finding lots of gems on this blog www.listentothis.info
Love the drumming in this
Can't forget Rob Hood And yet another Basic Channel alias
Check out this thread btw
Continuing my electronic music obsession This is really one track I can't stop coming back to
Thats a really cool track, didn't know that yet. Thanks One more track then. Behold; Bee Mask!
I'm sure you'll like Voices From The Lake (Donato Dozzy & Neel). Really take your time to listen to it though. Pretty much everything Donato Dozzy produces is good Some old Robert Hood And Svreca Also look into the record labels Semantica, Prologue and Sandwell District if you really like this style.
Yeah, Tomita is really cool. Really love 'Snowflakes are Dancing', especially this track.
