Little known fact about me: I have a deep and abiding love of Bossa Nova music. My dad lived in Brazil for a while when he was a kid, and the only things he took away from it were a love of barefoot soccer, and quite a lot of bossa records.

I have recently become obsessed with the song "Os Grilos". I love how off kilter the rhythm of the melody is, there's such great momentum - almost like it's tumbling over itself. Here's a few versions:

The Original, by Marcos Valle

A later version by Valle

Walter Wanderly's, my personal favorite (which I guess was on Breaking Bad? I've never seen it.)

Claudette Soares', which has some stank on it:

A version that will transport you to Starbucks, circa 2007.

Not quite sure why (besides the obvious clave) but the original really reminds me of this mambo tune, check it out:

Oh, also check out Jorge Drexler, he's Uruguayan and does mostly pop but his 2014 record Bailar en la cueva is more rhythmic and kind of pan-Latin American and it's incredible

Man that Claudette Soares jam is good! There's so much good Brazilian music I have yet to discover. Recently came upon this Gal Costa track.

Rest of the album this was on was OK, this one really stands out for me.
