Most recent Grasshopper test flight from SpaceX. This one includes a tall climb, and lateral movement which we haven't seen before.
Whoa whoa whoa. This is a re-usable rocket that can land itself? That's amazing.
Yup. They are actually going to do a scaled up test on September 5th. They are actually putting a few pieces of this project on a regular commercial SpaceX launch. Though it won't be landing on a pad. They are going to navigate it back down to the ocean and test some of the guidance and propulsion systems. So part of what you see in that video will be attached to an actual Falcon 9 rocket that is going to be launched into Space. In a couple more years they hope to be at the stage where they can land it back on the pad it took off from.
I can't begin to imagine the engineering behind something like that. Pretty amazing.
Came on to post that the rocket in this launch appeared to have much more of a lean than in previous videos. Glad to see from your comment that the lateral movement is deliberate. It is deliberate, isn't it?
