This was a really great video. Thank you for sharing. I lived in rural Montana and went to highschool there. Reservation towns were scattered all around. I played sports and whenever we would play away games in their towns you could see the devastation and poor conditions they would live in. There was an extreme sense of racism on both sides, the white folks versus the natives, and it came out in an ugly way whenever we played them either at home or away. I have tons of stories about things that happened to me while on the reservations and things that I had heard of happening over there, and sadly they all seem tragic in one way or the other. Most people that live near the reservations just avoid those areas altogether and as this video suggests, try to forget they exist even if we lived just a few miles from them. Very tough situation indeed.
Where did you live in Montana? I lived in Missoula Montana for five years. I recall the reservation there, I had some friends that actually had a house they rented on it. It was a sketchy place, that's for sure.
Yes, I went there from '96 to '00. It was a great time, awesome city.
After high school I stuck around in MI and played in a band. Then, when my parents were going to kick me out of the house I decided it may be time for college. I had friends that went to school out there already and had visited Missoula. I fell in love with the mountains, rivers and the party scene. It was everything I wanted at the time, plus I had good friends already living there. And to top it all off, they actually let me in to the University despite my horrific GPA. I made some of the best friends of my life during that time. I love Montana and I hope to get back there sometime in 2014 or 2015.
