Chicken dumped at shelter? Dude, lunch. Problem solved. -XC
I tend to agree. A chicken is an animal that has a built in solution if it becomes too much work. No reason at all to burden a shelter. I suppose people who aren't used to killing things regularly could find it difficult. I'm sure there are instructions on the internet.
It's even better when the animal has been eating some of the herbs before being killed. Oh man, rosemary inside and out...

Depends on the owner. Our chickens are pets as well as egg-layers - they have names, and when they stop laying, they'll just live out their lives. We aren't gonna eat them. Nothing wrong with it, but whether an animal is a pet, or food, is solely in the mind of the owner.
