Through personal experience? -I'm a gamer myself.
I'd like to think that the stigma is lifting; but I have friends that are still very uncomfortable talking about rpgs in mixed company where they'd easily talk about a game of monopoly. Maybe talking about Settlers of Catan would be different? I have friends that won't play Magic the Gathering in public. I wonder if 'geek' or 'nerd' is best defined by someone that is willing to pursue their interests regardless of social norms. It's a pity that a certain number of people need to approve of even a mundane pastime before many will partake.
