1998, maybe? The Big Lebowski, Saving Private Ryan and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas would all make my '90s top-ten list. Rounders, Shakespeare in Love, and The Thin Red Line would get mentions.

2001? Moulin Rouge and Donnie Darko right off the bat, Memento, The Fellowship of the Ring, Black Hawk Down, a Harry Potter movie that actually tried to be attractive to audiences, The Man Who Wasn't There, etc.

Gonna go with 2001 but I don't feel like doing a really in-depth look at this right now. Would possibly change my mind.

Oh wow, wasn't aware all of those came out in 1998. That's another great year for movies for sure.

That same year (1998) The Thin Red Line came out, which is brilliant. I thought it was better than SPR (also awesome, however), but didn't have the popular appeal.
