I started thinking about this after the thread by thenewgreen about who the best movie villain is, which can be found here.
The year for me is 2007. Let's start with the movie No Country for Old Men. I've probably watched it at least 6 or 7 times now. Outside of that, the following films came out in that year, all of which I love and can watch fairly regularly.
There Will Be Blood Juno Zodiac Before the Devil Knows You're Dead Persepolis and (this one people disagree with) Dan In Real Life
2007 was an absolutely incredible year for film, and those are only the movies that immediately come to mind.
Did a quick search and forgot about the following: Ratatouille Encounters at the End of the World Knocked Up Superbad
1998, maybe? The Big Lebowski, Saving Private Ryan and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas would all make my '90s top-ten list. Rounders, Shakespeare in Love, and The Thin Red Line would get mentions. 2001? Moulin Rouge and Donnie Darko right off the bat, Memento, The Fellowship of the Ring, Black Hawk Down, a Harry Potter movie that actually tried to be attractive to audiences, The Man Who Wasn't There, etc. Gonna go with 2001 but I don't feel like doing a really in-depth look at this right now. Would possibly change my mind.
Oh wow, wasn't aware all of those came out in 1998. That's another great year for movies for sure.
Every year has their gems but 1980 sticks out for me. The 80s in general were amazing for movies. Empire Strikes Back The Shining Raging Bull Airplane Cheech n Chong Next Movie Caddyshack Friday the 13th Elephant Man But probably most important...Chuck Norris' The Octagon
1982 E.T., Wrath of Khan, Polergeist, Gandhi, First Blood, The Dark Crystal, Blade Runner, Pink Floyd The Wall, The Secret of NIMH, The World According to Garp. formidable list Honorable Mention: Porkys -Some of the first T & A I ever saw. Also, for anyone that would be interested in picking up the #hubskifilmclub and running with it, I'll join in if someone else spearheads the post. Just come up with a suggestion for a topic and we'll choose.
1975... really a bunch of my favorite films ever... Zerkalo (Tarkovsky), Barry Lyndon (Kubrick), Jeanne Dielman, 23, Quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles (Akerman), One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (Milos Forman), Trollflöjten (Bergman), Dog Day Afternoon (Lumet)
Good year, for sure. You should check out this old post by flagamuffin asking to name your favorite film for every year you've been alive. It's a fun exercise.
