J. Kenji Lopez-Alt discusses the way to make the best french bread pizza. I have to say, I really like this guy. He's very accessible; he often posts in the comments section of Serious Eats as well as to various food-related subreddits. I've e-mailed him a question myself and within 24 hours he had replied.

Funnily enough that's how I've always made pizza, French bread or not. Especially the cheese under the sauce trick. That's something that I believe originated from the area I'm from, and is still done at most of the pizza places. Cooking a pizza for people with cheese on the bottom gets you weird reactions though. That said, making French bread pizza this way generally turns out tasting good and looking good.
