So here's a question: If a more variable environment causes a bigger brain, are there other example species to corroborate this? I.e., was Homo the only genus to develop a significantly larger brain during this period of intense environmental variability? If so, then I'm skeptical. Also, didn't the bulk (or all) of our encephalization take place before we migrated out of Africa? I'm not sure I buy the causality on first read.
