The Advanced Apes gets a new writer: Evolutionary Anthropologist Adam Benton.
Post summary:
Being able to detect liars and cheaters would've given our ancestors a key evolutionary advantage. One such ability we developed to do this is a better memory of cheaters, but the matter may not be as straight forward as evolutionary psychologists suggest.

So here's a question: If a more variable environment causes a bigger brain, are there other example species to corroborate this? I.e., was Homo the only genus to develop a significantly larger brain during this period of intense environmental variability? If so, then I'm skeptical. Also, didn't the bulk (or all) of our encephalization take place before we migrated out of Africa? I'm not sure I buy the causality on first read.
