I've been interested in the changes recently. Though most of the influx, in my opinion, has been good, there has been some friction. I was interested in who was causing that friction, and what the tags were. I wrote a crawler to collect a sample of data from the site, so we can see what tags are ignored, and which users are ignored.
Unshockingly, it appears that people are getting tired of seeing a lot of talk about reddit on Hubski.
I noticed that I was going to do a piece called hubski's under belly a directed graph of folks mk ignores and the folk that follow them.
It doesn't auto update. I learned that Hubski is not at all an easy site to scrape, for multiple reasons, but mostly because of how arc creates links. Anyway, what it came down to is using selenium to emulate a real browser, so it's not something I'm running in the background. However, I will run it periodically and update the results. Edit: Actually I won't run it again. Looks like mk pushed an update to make it so you can't see who someone is ignoring. I guess he figures that doesn't need to be public information. I sort of agree, but it makes any sort of analysis like this impossible.
If you are ignored by at least one person, then you are doing something right. Sadly, whoever was ignoring me last week is no longer ignoring me. Now I feel bland and unoffensive. Atheism is ignored by 5 and athiesm is ignored by two people who can't spell -- or maybe the same people ignored both -- just to be safe.
It's the same rationale behind why I use my sleeve to open bathroom doors. I know I washed my hands, but anyone else? No idea.
If I remember correctly tarekezombie was one of our very first spammers and with the influx of car parts spam on multiple accounts, the spam/ignore system was revamped.
Nice piece of analysis. I am glad that the ignore function is a public one - I think it encourages positive behaviour. I have no problem with other users ignoring the comments or posts that I submit, as it simply means our interests are not aligned or they don't value my opinion, both of which is fine.
Huh. Someone's ignoring me... Very interesting graph though, I hope it keeps updated.
I like seeing that the most-ignored users are ones with names relating to public figures, memes, or circlejerking. I feel like that shit doesn't belong here, and it's good so see that other people agree, and are taking advantage of the ignore system.
Someone ignores me too. I don't take it personally. I post a lot of music and I tend to share a lot of posts. There can be any number of reasons, I don't think it's a big deal.
All in good time :) Also, on a somewhat related note I watched the movie the Fox and the Hound last night. Classic. All day my daughter has been saying "I wanna watch fox".
