I assure you, it was intentional ;) I think this place has great potential, and I have become very frustrated with the state of reddit as of late, in particular the group think / hivemind that seems to permeate every subreddit. I love the sense of community here, and while I don't think hubski can completely replace my reddit experience any time soon (the wealth of knowledge and diversity of the smaller subreddits is just too hard to resist), they will definitely be coexisting peacefully on my bookmarks bar for the foreseeable future. I look forward to seeing where hubski takes all of us into 2013 and beyond.
TBH I think if we could completely replace the Reddit experience for a lot of people, we would be doing the wrong thing. I see more divergence rather than convergence in the future.I love the sense of community here, and while I don't think hubski can completely replace my reddit experience any time soon (the wealth of knowledge and diversity of the smaller subreddits is just too hard to resist), they will definitely be coexisting peacefully on my bookmarks bar for the foreseeable future.
A lot of people also have a different Reddit experience too. I personally am an absolute content consumer. I don't create content or post it, I just read it, and by read it, I mean I read _everything_. For people like me, who have a Reddit experience of reading interesting posts in r/AskHistorians r/minimalism and a myriad of other small, but high quality subreddits but without any posts of my own, Hubski is currently a supplement to that high quality content. Hubski will replace Reddit for me as soon as high quality posts from specialists or dedicated groups will migrate here. I am really looking forward to that time period, as I absolutely love and crave interesting content, and Hubski has a very efficient interface for me to do that, and I am sure it will improve.
Maybe you should have a "contributions" page where you can post simple tasks others can do for you. Say you want to change a minor functionality, but don't have the time for it, have some person pick up that project, and then return that to you. It would probably hard without open-sourcing the project though, and could be too much of a pain to set up.
There's a good chance that we might open source soon. I always intended to at some point, however there are some other considerations that might make it happen sooner than later. IMO there's a lot of energy and creativity that could be harnessed for the betterment of Hubski, and I'd like to give an outlet for that. The API is an obvious step in that direction. There's a few moving parts here, and I hope to be able to have some specifics for everyone very soon.
Ive been a redditor for quite a while now, and a hubskier (is that even a word?) for about a week, and there is one thing that is strikingly similar to our opinion and my life ; Reddit is like a club, to which you go out sometimes and act crazy, while Hubski is like your local bar with friends. How much I enjoy a club, ill always return to my friends at the local bar :) So here's to you hubski, have a great 2013!
+! Thanks for spreading the word syncretic. I have been enjoying the conversations I have been having with a wide variety of hubskiers these past few days. I have met some really great artists, scientists and musicians. I hope you have a great 2013.
I don't want this to turn into a Redditors-anonymous thread, but I'm here because of you, too. I had gotten so tired of "OP is a fag" in every thread outside of the niche communities I'm a part of. I had been looking for an alternative outside of reddit. Your post was perfectly timed. For that, I thank you.
