Oobject is occasionally entertaining.
Utzon's Opera House was originally discarded by the competition committee until Eero Saarinen, arriving late, joined the group and noticed Utzon's design laying in the rejection pile. He picked it up and declared it to be an amazing design.
Pah, that giant elephant is way cooler than a boring archway! Check out the unbuilt Palace of the Soviets:
Also, the Victorian pyramid necropolis reminds me of plans for a proposed German 'Great Pyramid' where one can pay for a burial spot.
While the author was down on it (and critics apparently, but that's not hard), I actually quite like the current Tower Bridge. The supporting arcs are kind of soft, fluid, and beautiful in contrast with the rigid stone towers. Almost like a blue fabric scarf falling from the structure. That being said, the alternative looks more synergistic. I bet it would have looked incredible had it been constructed.
I can just imagine episodes of sliders that could have featured these different versions of monuments on other earths.
