Knocking on wood seems useful to me. I often see it as a way of reflecting withgratitude on something positive in my life. I might mention to my wife,” Knock on wood, but tomorrow’s weather is predicted to be nice so I can get out and run a few miles. Knocking o wood is recognizing things are pretty good and there are no guarantees they’ll stay that way. I’ve no good reason to change it and don’t expect to do so.
I see it the same way. I even knock louder and more forcefully given how grateful I am. For example when talking to my wife I might say regarding our son, “he seems to be behaving well in school this year and his grades are up.” -hard knock. Always two knocks too. Never just one. Hope y’all get some good weather up there in Michigan, katakowsj. I’ll knock wood for that. Onward!
