You: Attempt to stop The Expression from happening. Electrochemistry: It's like something snaps in you -- a nerve ending, a thought, a sadness. Your face in the mirror is suddenly clean of the leer that had distorted it for god knows how long. Electrochemistry: Just like that it's over -- the running gag that your life had become. A sad old man looks back at you.
Overall a good week! Spent a few days back at home to help feed my little niece at night so my sister could get some sleep. Re-wrote my cv and learning about what it takes to make the career switch, and if it’s something that will actually fit my profile. Went to see an art expo with my ex - building back the friendship slowly. I need to let go of some worries Ive been carrying about his financial situation and stuff, as it’s not really my problem anymore. It’s hard to turn it off sometimes but it’s getting easier. It’s also getting easier to have a positive outlook on what this year will bring. Excited for the upcoming travels, new opportunities and who knows what other surprises. And sober January is still on, I’m proud of myself for not caving! Finally feels like I’ve unstuck mentally a little after all the overwhelming changes in 2022.
I’ve been on a fitness and wellness kick. Played tennis on Monday and did something godawful to my back. So sore. Can’t run or move quickly. So bummed. I’ve never had back problems in my life. I hope this heals quickly.
Lower back? Any of that horrid sciatica? Whenever I injure my back (a couple of times every couple of years, heavy weight lifting yay) my physio gets me to keep moving. Even just little bits, walking as much as can. It made a huge difference to my recovery over simply resting and staying still. Of course the hard part was not jumping back into things too early..
Welp, Jacinda Ardern has resigned Makes sense, for a variety of reasons. What I suspect it means for us as New Zealanders; the centre right National party will win the upcoming election and we'll collectively kick some cans further down the road. Other than that, things are fine. Work is work, hobbies are lifelines, and it's really fucking hot. 25°C and I'm not allowed to wear corporate shorts to work. Gah! Do corporate shorts exist? I dunno. But I am sick of pants. Let my pins be free.
Been chatting with KB about Marjorie Taylor Greene being appointed to the Homeland Security Committee in the House of Representatives, and ... I'm gonna need to make some popcorn ... this is gonna be good ... Ms. QAnon is now going to be witness to the sausage-making that is National Security... at least through the perspective of the utterly ineffective clown car that is the Dept of Homeland Security! Her worldview is so simplistic and so shallow, she has no idea how data is gathered, how risks are evaluated, or how decisions finally get made and then turned into policy. Here's the fun part: IT'S BORING. And SLOW. She's gonna have a conniption (again) and it's going to be lovely to watch. And/Or, she's going to absolutely dig it. I mean, she's gone DEEP down the QAnon rabbithole, done oodles of research and totally believes that shit. Sorting through hours and hours of difficult to understand coded messaging to come up with "an answer" that she's totally confident of. Which honestly could serve her very well when digging into issues of national security. Fortunately, she's just one idiot on a temporary (2-year) committee assignment with 30 other people in the room, so I could see her just disappearing down this rabbit hole and completely eliminating herself from any meaningful work at all. Plus, anything the Committee comes up with has to be voted on in the House, then voted on in the Senate, then signed by Biden. So ... yeah, she's gonna be sidelined. And then we all win! :-)
I think you are grossly overestimating Marjorie Taylor Green's ability to pay attention. You're talking about a person whose days were fully occupied with pilates for the better part of fifteen years. Thee or me? We'd sit there gobsmacked from dawn to dusk over all the stuff behind the green door but then, we're curious. You don't become Marjorie Taylor Greene without being far more committed to your beliefs about the world than you are to your observations. There's a Venn diagram of "clown show" / "witch hunt" / "sop throwing" / "actual governance" that the Republican House of Representatives will fill in for the next two years. Before Matt Goetz it was lookin' pretty witch hunty. Now? Now my money's on clown show.
