Current Fox frontpage, which I think exceeds my threshold of "blatantly dangerous propaganda": Literally the first link in the article is to the fundraising page for the convoy, btw. I'm not linking to shit. Sorry not sorry. I was wrong about the Super Bowl, but I was correct that the border bridge blockades wouldn't be allowed to continue for more than a couple/few days. The common thread is that disruption of corporatism will not be tolerated. Or they might have run out of time to organize. Not sure. But again, I think that disruption centered on liberal, residential city centers and especially any nearby government courthouses or offices will be thoroughly encouraged. We'll see if the "anti-mandate" folks can meaningfully organize before the State of the Union address, on March 1st. God knows there are plenty of right wing actors pushing for it.
New York Times: "Some Americans cheered the moves, mostly by Democratic governors, but others questioned the timing, with more than 200,000 new virus infections being reported each day." Fox News: "Critics are knocking Dems, media for following politics instead of the science ahead of the midterms" You seen this? Switzerland is about the only country willing to call a spade a spade: COVID has gone from a mandatory pandemic to an elective one. Ain't nobody out there undecided at this point. If you're vaxxed and boosted and under 50, Omicron is LESS dangerous than the flu, and nobody mandates flu shots. More than that, democratic governors are the ones who know their base is utterly, completely, unquestionably safe from COVID at this point. Disrupting the superbowl would have been an extremely stupid look considering California's mask mandate was going to expire in three days. I'm not sure why it's so surprising to everyone that the liberal states are the ones going "enough." But since that doesn't match the Fox News narrative they have to go with "glowering Gavin Newsom."
I'm anti-doxxing, so hopefully the handoff of the most sensitive info to journalists and the subsequent publications goes well. But damn if I don't support comms disruption (sorry for the domain, hard to find good coverage). "Ram Ranch", lol. I was wrong. This "movement" didn't manage to disrupt the superbowl. Still, I think the model of disrupting inner cities like was/is used in Ottawa is going to be employed here in the states pretty soon. Conversely, majorly impacting corporate profits, like e.g. blockading US-Canada border bridges, will NOT be allowed by police. edit: oof, Trudeau just moved to freeze the bank accounts of protestors. SlipperySlope.gif :/
Lol dude if this were Black Lives Matter they would have "civil forfeitured" their trucks, their bank accounts and their real estate the minute they pulled the parking brakes. Slippery slope my ass in the United States black or brown people who disrupt interstate commerce would be charged as terrorists and subjected to the full rapacious hedonism of the system. Frankly our laws would allow THE UNITED STATES to take a flyer at Canadian truckers, IN CANADA.
yeah, fuck em - the state gives right wing protesters hugs and kisses and shoots left wing protesters in the streets already without an excuse, that's not going to change how anybody behaves except for the 0.1 percent of people that actually care about hypocrisy
I know, amigo. Shit's more buddybuddy than a postgame intramural handslap line. And the overlap between law enforcement and the "anti-mandate" (whatever the fuck that means, it seems to just mean "white anarchy advocates") advocates is even more in the US. You peeps are preaching to the choir director, but sometimes I like to pretend a highroad still exists. Like right-wing information networks aren't completely insular. Like the historical record matters, in this moment. We are doomed to lose, I think. Like, all of us, the entire society. #doomer
This is true. But goddamn I don't want to feel like it's ok to abuse civil liberties of people I disagree with. I am sick of whiny white extremists, I really am. But I am disturbed how our public servants keep taking away our liberties in the name of a cause, no matter how just. We are being played. We need due process for everyone.
It has been happening your entire goddamn life but now that it's white people across the Canadian border you're tweakin'. Your choice: Read a book Or get hectored by John Oliver for fifteen minutes. But goddamn I don't want to feel like it's ok to abuse civil liberties of people I disagree with.
As a white guy tho you're safe. EIGHTEEN FBI agents raided my dad's house looking for plutonium. Then they raided his other house because they weren't even smart enough to contextualize the raid. Had my dad been brown? That would have been a no-knock warrant with battering ram and flash-bangs. I know this because I had a buddy who was looking for me one fine day, at the exact same house, who was white but happened to look native american and they had him in a stress position for thirty minutes after rolling four squad cars across the lawn at him, drawing weapons and holding a K9 a foot from his face barking and ready to murder. DEVIL'S ADVOCACY: White people are itchy about the Patriot Act because it gives the police the right to treat white people like brown people.
For now, but that's not my concern. My concern is that authoritarian governance isn't going to be good for any of us, regardless of our color. "Just as bad for white people" isn't a good outcome, and also not the likely outcome. Devil's Devil's Advocacy: White people pushback is good for all because the white male lawmakers are sympathetic in their ignorance. As a white guy tho you're safe.
I don't disagree? But my point is that caring more now is part of the problem. One need only look at the different applications of justice between Standing Rock and Malheur to illustrate that giving a shit about civil liberties only when people who look like us are imperiled is the whole of the issue.
You know what would rule? For the Republican Party to get so up in their don't wear masks/don't teach critical race theory nonsense that they decide that impinging the liberties of anyone is unamerican. The reason Malheur went as simply as it did was the whiplash reaction against Ruby Ridge/Waco/Etc under Clinton. They said as much. If I were a liberal attorney general I would go after every redneck sonofabitch with the full goose-stepping authority vested in me. Provoke me some real backlash. California's gun laws are as tough as they are because the Black Panthers practiced open carry. Be interesting to see Black Lives Matter adopt similar tactics.
https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/sloly-ottawa-resigns-behaviour-leadership-1.6352295 If police chiefs are actually expected to criticize criminals, I think the protestors are so lazy that it'll be enough on it's own to prevent them. They have easier alternatives that won't get them assaulted in non-pacifist citiesStill, I think the model of disrupting inner cities like was/is used in Ottawa is going to be employed here in the states pretty soon.
