MC 900 Ft Jesus - The City Sleeps Starts off with a smooth, chill beat and when the lyrics kick in, takes a sharp left turn. Watched a few live performances on youtube and love the variety. Only found 3 albums though and still checking them out.
You are in for a treat, my friend. There's a whole story to his career, and how he got screwed, and why he left the industry. But the music he created on those three albums is really something special. I got to see him live in San Francisco back when he was touring for his first album "Hell With The Lid Off" and had just started playing some stuff from his new album, "Welcome to my Dream". Just him and DJ Zero on the stage, weaving these stories and melodies... Tone Loc had just come out with "Funky Cold Medina". Public Enemy was telling everyone to "Fight the Power". Primus was "Sailing the Seas of Cheese". And Rage Against The Machine hadn't released an album yet. It was one hell of a time for music...
Longtime fan, first-time caller. I had Hell With The Lid Off on TAPE Had the opportunity to mix Cottonmouth, TX at one point in the '90s. Even rented them some gear because they didn't travel with a lot of backline. They were setting up and I said You guys sound a lot like MC 900 Ft Jesus and the keyboardist said ...we ARE MC 900 Ft. Jesus. We just swap out frontmen. As far as I'm concerned, MC900Ft Jesus/Cottomouth, TX are the only worthwhile bands to come out of Dallas and yes I know what a horrible insult that is to Horton Heat, fight me.
