The latest is that Pelosi and Schumer are discussing whether or not they should pass the articles to the Senate. I think I agree with the House holding onto the mic for now. It's almost assuredly only a matter of time before something else comes out. In the meantime, the Supreme Court will be forced to hear the cases of 1) whether or not the executive branch must respond to Congressional subpoenas (LOL, spoiler: it does), 2 thru 4) three cases involving Trump's tax returns being sought by three separate entities, 5) whether the executive can legally block employees from testifying via executive privilege claims. Also, Rudy Giuliani isn't shutting up anytime soon, and that's a gauranteed constant stream of wtf. There are other threads to pull, too. I have had little incentive to post much on this topic when we basically figured this out a long time ago: Edit: although yesterday's news on Parnas's $1 mil loan is certainly not conclusive, I just have to wonder: What service and history of business successes do the people loaning Parnas money point to as generating revenue to repay a loan? Only one thing emerges, which is Parnas's ability to influence U.S. policy through campaign contributions and "intelligence" hook-ups already linked to Russian propaganda efforts, through which Rudy has served, perhaps unwittingly(?!), as the linchpin. SDNY is poised to blow this wide open. If Barr attempts to quash this, the details will leak, somehow. If the dems choose to pass the impeachment articles to the Senate, they should then consider the possibility of impeaching Trump again, on another article or two or three in the future. Nothing in the constitution prevents this. The GOP will mercilessly accuse the dems of election tampering, but it doesn't matter anymore. If at least one branch of Congress doesn't keep the pressure up, Trump will be emboldened beyond anything remotely reasonable. The House has been busy passing legislation completely unrelated to impeachment. Mitch McConnell's senate, on the other hand, has been busy packing the judiciary with unqualified judges. Accusing the dems of "doing nothing" is somewhere north of Trump's 12,000th lie. Our founding fathers probably couldn't imagine a political party submitting to one man enough to completely subvert congressional oversight. :(.
Mitch McConnell is fucking OLD. And tired. My one last hope for our republic is that he falls over dead during the holidays. What a gift to the world that would be. His replacement would be able/inclined to distance himself from Mitch's lunatic fringe beliefs and policies, and I could see Pelosi waiting 6 months to pass the charges on to the Senate, where the new leader - and a party free of Moscow Mitch - could actually weigh the merits of the findings. I'm not optimistic for this outcome - look how long that fuck Strom Thurmond hung on for, just out of pure spite for humanity - but it is a possibility that we can savor like a delicious chocolate sweet...
I did it for visibility/awareness and to promote discussion. And because it's the biggest victory so far against this wannabe tyrant. Even if it's only symbolic.
It’s amazing to me the difference in speech pattern and manner of speaking by Trump in 2008 vs 2019.
I used to wonder whether or not Trump understands what he's doing. Like, if he knows there seems to be more than just undertones of Goebbels in his messaging tactics, if he consciously conducts his affairs like a mob boss, or if he genuinely believes that he knows better than anyone else what's "best for America", including entire teams of people. But then I remember that this is a man who has an entire wikipedia article and a constantly updated subreddit documenting his hypocrisy. This is most probably a man of no convictions, a predatory political opportunist, attempting to ascend the ranks of power as quickly as possible. I wholeheartedly believe that a large majority of Trump supporters are good people, and they have simply been duped by a man who spent most of his lifetime attempting to manipulate public opinion instead of tending to the mechanics of business operations. And Fox, Sinclair, Facebook echo chambers, all that, continually enable him. My $20 bet with wasoxygen, in which I said Trump wouldn't be re-elected, was probably a poor wager. Trump might win with a stagnant 45% approval rating if the electoral college vote tally can be engineered via targeted advertisements, gerrymandering, voter suppression, disinformation, etc. to give Trump the W. We'll almost know for sure if there's a larger deficit than 3 million voters between the popular vote and the electoral college in 2020 vs. 2016. I don't know what to do. I can vote, but I've lost faith in both the sanctity of American elections and the ability of the American electorate to make informed decisions. Russia delights in my misery. How much do I owe you for this therapy session, mk? demure gave me a Hubski sticker, so I guess I better put it someplace good.
:( Sorry, not quality content, but I'm right there with ya. I think in Trump's case, he likely doesn't realize what he's doing...but I think he is easily capable of being guided there by those around him who do understand, or should understand. Speaking to your first paragraph comments specifically. My sadface is about your bet.
He was impeached by the House of Representatives. He will probably not be convicted of impeachment by the Senate, and thus will remain in office. But Trump is impeached forever, just like Bill Clinton.
Just so everyone's clear, Trump is not removed from office. The GOP Senate will now conduct a "trial", and because it takes 67 or more votes to convict the president (removing him from office), there is effectively no chance that we'll get Pence because of this. "Trial" in quotes, because the Senate (McConnell) is reportedly considering not even hearing witnesses. And after he's acquitted, wait'll ya see what Trump does next. 2020 elections are gon' be super duper fucked.
Oh it’s clear that he won’t be removed from office. If he wins 2020, I’m out. 🇨🇦
Happy Holidays All, With deep regret I feel that there’s something we should face. It’s becoming clearer that grandpa’s age and lifestyle is catching up with him. We need take him to a specialist and see if he’s had a stroke, UTI, or maybe his sodium is out of whack. Or, possibly worse. Lately he’s been sounding detached from reality, saying stuff like,”They’re all out to get me. They’re making it all up and spreading these lies about me!” I tell him, “Grandpa, everyone wants you to do a great job, but you keep making nonsensical arguments and lashing out at us. Look what you said about Uncle John Dingell! That was terrible, Aunt Debbie was just crushed!” Grandpa would have none of that though, he went on blaming these imaginary “hoaxes” he calls them as he curses into his phone. It’s time that one of the family take the keys to the free world away from him, the sooner the better, before someone gets hurt! I’d step in myself, but I’ll be nowhere DC this holiday season. If one of you guys could get on it ASAP, we’d all appreciate it. Grandpa’s done enough damage to our American family name already. It’s pretty clear the neighbors are over the, “ah, he’s just getting crotchety phase. Look what he did to our relatively disadvantaged Ukraine neighbors down the block! Think about it, he pushed them around I hopes of retaining his seat as the subdivision board chair. How long ‘til he’s got that rifle, that that jerk Lapierre from across the street gave, him pointed at a delivery boy or the youngsters that play on his lawn occasionally? Anyone willing to step up? Happy Holidays, Cousin Jeff
