I’m old enough to remember the George W. Bush presidency. Everyone thought he would be a one term president based on the fact that nobody took him seriously. -People in our country and the rest of the globe. But he won a second term. I think that the left is going to make the same mistake again. Assuming that the world doesn’t take Trump seriously because people chuckled at a UN speech. People take sanctions seriously. I guarantee China is taking him more seriously than they have any modern president. To underestimate this guy is a mistake if we are to win back the WH. He doesn’t care if you think he’s an asshole. You will never vote for him. He just needs his base and some of the middle. I think he’s a two-term President. When George W. Bush was in office I saw impeach bush signs everywhere. I don’t see that for Trump. There’s a lot of apathy right now. You may not feel it, your friends may not feel it but there are people in the middle that are being awfully quiet. These people were angered by Bush but are remaining docile w trump. Imo. If the economy tanks he is fucked. So long as it is improving he wins again. Trust me, it sucks to have a president that I can’t point to as a positive role model for my kids. That blows. I’d like him to be gone in 2020 but I’m concerned he is here to stay because th left isn’t enraged enough and isn’t taking him seriously enough. He’s not dumb.
People didn't underestimate Bush. They overestimated the Right. And have continued to do so lo these many years. There aren't a bunch of Impeach Trump signs because the Left has come to realize that the Right are totally 100% down with a world in which black men get shot by cops, in which white kids get a pass for raping white women, and in which brown children are taken away from brown parents. With GWB, we thought they could be made to see reason. With Trump, we're afraid to see how insane they truly are.
Remember Bush, eh ? Well you’re gonna break something with all this pivoting then old man. I remember it too, because certain things happening during that time affected the rest of the world. I don’t doubt he’ll stay in office for a while, but this midterm showed democrats they need to work hard in 2020 and that although they made gains they need to energize their base as well. The thing that most enrages the people I know is that there’s an entire group of people who act like it doesn’t actually matter who’s in office because they live a comfortable life. There’s no empathy for asylum seekers who have yet to be reunited with their children or who have been reunited with a child who has been traumatized by your country. This very conversation, you’ve pivoted away from a conversation about women because it just doesn’t affect you. It’s easier to just say this will pass like Bush did because it has no affect on your life. It’s easier to make the issue about respecting office because the other issue has no place in your mind. They took his pass away because he “layed his hands on a woman”, end of story. They doctored this video to back up that belief. You might be willing to change the argument or focus for them but they climbed this hill and they can die on it before I let them change what they said.
I didn’t watch their video. I mentioned that I watched the actual live presser. I mentioned that I didn’t realize they framed it as male aggression and I mentioned that this was ridiculous and irresponsible. This “old man,” wasn’t pivoting, he was having a conversation.
Again, I thought that maybe I was having a conversation. They tend to flow in to new areas, you can call this pivoting if you’d like. I’d invite you to re-read our back and forth and I’d challenge you to find where I was anything less than civil in my conversation with you. This has crossed in to non productive waste of time territory. Time is something I don’t have a lot of. Onward!I’m old enough to remember” was patronizing BS.
it is? It’s just a fact. If someone told me they were old enough to remember Nixon, I wouldn’t find it patronizing, I’d find it contextual.
