I've been in kind of a "music rut" lately, looking for something new or at least "new to me" to get into but without much luck. I went through a bit of an electro-swing infatuation but once the novelty of it wore off there's not much in the genre aside from Caravan Palace and the odd bit of Parov Stelar or Caro Emerald that I'm still going back to. Aside from that mostly I've been listening to stuff like The Mountain Goats, Andrew Jackson Jihad, and Kimya Dawson but I'm starting to feel the burnout there as well. I kind of have a bad habit of finding something different enough to hold my attention then overdoing it to the point I tire myself out from it.
I feel similarly about electro-swing and went through a similar disenchantment. I think part of the problem is that the genre never really attracted the instrumentalists and vocalists it needed to really diversify and expand. Caravan Palace and Parov Stelar are so dominant that it essentially made it impossible for anyone else to produce a sound, call it electro-swing and not get beat over the head by die-hards.
I went through something similar with electro-swing and basically never listen to it anymore. But, sometimes, I check out some of the lesser known artists to see what they produced. Like Odjbox for example He for example had a record a few years ago with instrumental bits. I guess he is evolving, ,changing? I liked this one from him Maybe demiurrrge will like it
Thanks for mentioning The Mountain Goats. I've never listened to them before. Listening to "This Year" right now. Good stuff.
This Year and the whole album it comes from are pretty good and representative of their general style. If you want a sampling of some good songs off of other albums I'd recommend - Lakeside View Apartment Suite - Foreign Object - No Children - Game Shows Touch Our Lives
Fenne Lily - have been listening to her music a lot this week, great for winter time.
i've had a ton of fun lately compiling a rym list of must-listen old hip hop after a friend said kendrick lamar was the greatest rapper of all time, which was disturbing the genre is new enough that you can really do a survey of all the classics and almost-classics in just a few months, if you try at it. suggestions welcome, by the way
Happy 300!! Pretty amazing. I’ve been listening to this song a LOT:
bfv: Also Sprach Zarathustra seems right up their alley but The Sound of Music? 35 years of WTF. ---- Spin Artes - Silhouettes From one of my favourite releases this year so far: Elementis, and mainly due to that track. I usually hate sampling voice clips - especially the tiresome, obsessive inclusion of every single second of recorded speech by Alan Watts in the psy... genres. But Vincent Price's velvety smooth resonant baritone from The Last Man on Earth is so minimal and precisely wielded, it's a thing of beauty. I'm such a push over.
Classic music perfectly revives fading herb. If you play a melody near the withering plant, it will gradually be filled with flowers, moreover, it will be extended to where sound occur from.
Laibach covering a Sound Of Music tune? Yes. The world makes sense. All of the yes. "Life is Life" got me through more LSD bad times than I can count so - Yes. I am into Marshmello right now. I taught a couple of math classes today but really, inside my head, I only had this song. He's a dumb little masked EDM dude. But. One of his videos has over a BILLION-with-a-B hits. This song reminds me of Bach-with-a-B. Feist is going to be at the Oregon Zoo and I could pay $150 to see her, but I probably won't. If I go to anything there it'll be the Indigo Girls because I'm not sure I can sell my wife on the B-52s, OMD, and Berlin. And Lizzo just dropped - like, two hours ago - a bunch of stuff onto Youtube. That's where I get all of my music from - Youtube, I mean. Getting all my music from Lizzo will be a viable choice in 20 years once she's got that kind of cred. I haven't listened to any of it enough yet to know what's good but I don't miss Prince anymore. I mean, damn. I suppose I'll vote for Sanders when he gets the nomination but I'd rather vote for Warren because she's the closest candidate to Lizzo.
i've been into sam perry and youtube recommeds to be honest, so - i've found rather nice stuff, you know, f.e. Isak Danielson. also 'Ott guy' - very good music.
Lately I have been just browsing through youtube recommendations and found some stuff I really liked so here it is: Tame Impala (obssesed with Let It Happen, where the hell was I when this was released?), Chase Atlantic, Bootleg Boy (not a band or singer but a great channel), android52, SIAMES, The Neighborhood, Glass animals.
im really loving OMD rn. my favorite songs are electricity and enola gay. Really good, especially if you like bands like the cure and the smiths.
I considered celebrating the round number by listening to some 300 year old music. Looks like 1718 wasn't a particularly strong year though. Maybe some Vivaldi? But then Haken released another single, yay!
I just saw them in concert at Saxapahaw a couple months ago. It was awesome!
I've been listening to a lot of originals of mine. Also: Faye Wong- Dreams (Cranberries cover) Jack White- Love is Blindness (U2 cover) Jay-Z- $100 Bill Frank Ocean- Super Rich Kids Lil Wayne- Mona Lisa ft. Kendrick Lamar Taj Mahal- Senõr Blues Salt N Pepa- Push It Sia- I'm Still Here A$ap Rocky- Ridin' ft. Lana Del Rey
