- Over 80 percent of respondents supported abolishing changing the clocks in summer and winter a survey that ran between July 4 and August 16, according to media reports on the results.
Some 4.6 million people took part in the online survey, making it the largest one in EU history.
The survey particularly struck a chord with Germans, with three million taking part.
Fuckin' hell can the US please do the same?
I'm for it. The change is a pain in the arse twice a year and seemingly for little gain. In Ireland we don't benefit much during the summer because the days are already very long, and during the winter there are less than eight hours anyway. The main argument I've heard to keep the status quo is that schoolkids will have to go to school in the dark... Which is often already the case. But if it's making summer time permanent (i.e. +1), does that mean that the sun will never be due south at noon?
Schools will adjust the time if parents make a stink. So there's a second reason to ignore that complaint. But if you want to use it for navigation you can adjust for it. Nobody else cares even if they do notice. Timezones are drawn wonky enough that some places are an hour off without daylight savings. Now that I think about it, I'm surprised I haven't seen any independent shops whose summer/winter hours shift at the time changes. I'm going to chalk that up as evidence that people like complaining about time but don't care all that much.schoolkids will have to go to school in the dark... Which is often already the case.
