We have a 5'x8' recessed north-facing balcony that gets no sunshine at all on any day of the year. So we are restricted to what can grow in full shade in zone 8.

We have Spanish bluebells and anemone de caen in one planter. We planned last fall. Due to a warm front one anemone sprouted in December and the rest rotted I think. That one did just barely survive, and the bluebells went dormant properly and came up in February. So we have a dozen bluebells with one anemone in the middle.

We have a small pot with forget-me-nots and a couple with lily-of- the-valley.

We planted some "Dorothy Rose" variety columbines which everyone suggests putting in at least partial sun, but I planted some in a big pot anyway for sentimental reasons.

I got a Turks cap which is native here from Lowe's and put it in a big pot, but I don't think it had enough time to get established before the cold weather hit and it is dead. I have a gift card to a better nursery that will have more in stock next week so I should have better luck with that one.
